Australia travel part 4! Cape Pillar sail away from Port Arthur Tasmania
When booking our 5 day Tasmania Cruise, we opted for a balcony cabin not only for the iconic sail out from Sydney Harbour, but for the amazing views and sail out from Port Arthur right by Cape Pillar of Tasmania!
Many cruisers miss this beautiful sail away because they are unaware. I happened to see a quick glimpse of it a few years ago while working on a cruise ship that did this run and vowed I would be back to enjoy the views, and that is just what we did, from the comforts of our balcony!
Cape Pillar can be reached by hiking or sea and are the tallest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere. They make for some incredible views. It is supposed to be a hikers heaven (I’d love to hike it but I think my fear of heights might be an issue!). It is also a great area for kayaking, caves to explore, and for those feeling extremely adventurous, abseiling and rockclimbing!
As we continued sailing out from Tasmania, the watched as the clouds engulfed the cliffs and shrouded them in a blanket of white. Our last glimpse of Tasmania was a beautiful but eerie view of Tasmin Island and lighthouse being swallowed up by the white mist. I couldn’t have asked for a better close to a legendary trip exploring Tasmania and all its beauty with amazing friends by my side!
