Traveling the World #152 - Let’s Visit Barbican Fort & Surroundings @ Krakow, Poland

Hi Everyone,

The next stop would be Barbican Fort which is not too far from the Main Square at Krakow. We walked through some smaller inner streets and found ourselves at the Barbican Fort. I was actually surprised how many people were there but I guess it was close to the square as well the walk was pretty pleasant.

Due to its location, we can see why so many come by once they visited the main square and old town. From far away, it looked like a sandcastle and was rather large compared to some of the fort we have seen in the past. The surroundings have lots of greens and walkways so people can slowly enjoy the scenery as well a nice stroll around a bit of nature. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we couldn’t go into the fort as it was late in the afternoon. I find that when we visit Europe during winter, the opening hours do shorten a lot so keep that in mind when you are visiting.

As it was a popular tourist spot, there were clear signages in Polish and English showing where the main attractions are. This spot was not part of our plan to come but we found out when we saw the maps left out at our accommodation. If you are to visit around the old town or the main square, do take the time to come and see this fort.
