Travel With The Honeys #7: The Rio Hotel and World Of Wonder Show Review

in #travel7 years ago

It was a mesmerizing journey of a dreamscape that we got totally sucked into. We went under the water with mermaids and pirates. We visited the landscapes of Africa with elephants and tigers, and we fell in love with dancing in the rain and some beautiful love affairs. But before I get into the details of the show, let me just take you into the show!

My husband and I LOVE the Vegas shows, but, for some reason, he isn’t keen to go see the Chippendales with me, even though we get free tickets to it! One of these days, we will have to do a full review on ALL the male reviews here, and write it on Steemit! Maybe that will convince him to go with me! There’s Aussie Heat (actual friends of ours), Chippendales, Thunder From Down Under, and Magic Mike.

But, I’m not going to be talking about that show today, I’m going to be talking about World Of Wonder (WOW). It’s at the Rio, and when we walked into the Rio, the first photo we saw was this giant bigger than life wall picture of the Chippendales. Of course, this giant photo didn’t help Jamie’s arguments to NOT go to the show with me. I looked at the photo and said, “But, Jamie, it’s a sign! We should take a hint!”. He didn’t find me funny, nor did he buy it!

So, the best part about going to see World Of Wonder, I’ll call it WOW from now on, is that I got to take my daughter, my 5 year old grandson, my husband, and my parents. This was the VERY first live show my grandson has ever seen! We call my grandson Little Man, and he really is such a little man. He is SO cute!. Of course, he wasn’t sure why Grandma Amy was taking a photo inside the Rio with these half naked men. But, one day, he’ll figure it out!

On the way to the show we were in 2 cars. We had Jamie (husband) driving, my daughters boyfriend in the front see, myself, my daughter and little man in the back seat. The cops pull up next to us at a stop light, and Little Man yells out the window ‘Poe Poe SCRAM!’. We all looked at him shocked, and at this point I’m looking at my daughter asking her, ‘Who are you hanging out with these days?’. We all started laughing a bit and then quickly told Little Man, ‘No honey, the Poe Poe are good, they help us out’. (mainly because if he’s in trouble we would want him to run TO the police, not away from them). And then, Little man says, ‘No, the Poe-poe, the poe-poe, they take all the pups.’. And he was dead serious, and very concerned about the poe-poe. I said, ‘are we actually having a poe-poe conversation with a 5 year old?’. Then we asked him, ‘where did the poe-poe take the pups?’. He said, ‘In Secret Life Of Pets, the Poe-poe are very mean’. We all just cracked up!! Then we told him that those are the animal poe-poe. These poe-poe are people poe-poe, and the help us. However, that didn’t help my daughter as she was flying back home the next day! Little man was screaming ‘poe-poe scram’ to the police in the Chicago airport, and my daughter was so embarrassed! Ah, the joys of kids!

So, back to the WOW and Rio review! When walking into any of the hotels on the strip, they are always bigger than life. The sounds of the slot machines rattling off, the oxygen that is pumped into the air to keep you awake, and the feel that you are outside with cloud ceilings so you don’t know what time of day it is can always be disorienting. But, there is a certain amount of excitement I always feel in the pit of my stomach when I walk into a casino.

The funny thing is, my husband and I both are non drinkers, and we don’t gamble. For me, it’s just the big lights, the gawdy backdrops, and the promise of dreams coming true that Vegas represents. One hotel I walked into even had holograms, it was the coolest thing! The Rio has a really cool glass elevator that takes you up to the 51rst floor, where there is a zipline, and a zipline outdoor lounge! It was the most breath taking view of Vegas, and we happened to catch it when the sun was going down. We actually spoke to the couple that went on the zip line, and the wife thought it was the best thing ever. Her husband was not sharing the same enthusiasm!

There are some really fun art galleries in the Rio, like the Michael Goddard art gallery. He features several other artists, and it was the first time I’d seen his work. He is famous for cocktails, wine glasses, and olives that come to life!

He’s known as the rock star of art, and he definitely looks like a rock star. When I first saw his photograph, I mistook him for Chris Angel (the rock star of magic). I really did fall in love with some of his artwork. They didn’t allow any photographs inside the studio, but, on the high end, his pieces went for about $68,000. On the low end, you could get a signed limited edition print for around $1500.

Another fun display in the Rio is the Kiss car! As I’m looking at the sign that says, ‘no sitting on the tongue’ (only in Vegas!), I’m wondering why this random car is in the middle of the casino? Come to find out they have a 13,000 square foot Kiss black light glow in the dark mini put put golf that you can go play. They have state of the art video, and it’s complete with a Kiss wedding chapel and never before seen Kiss gear. (which, combining a wedding with put put golf would be high on the fun list for my husband since he LOVES put put golf!). If this was ever a wedding option for you, I DEFINITELY WANT PICTURES!! LOL!! In the meantime, here is the Kiss car!!

The show, WOW was really just that! It was so amazing to walk in and see the surround of the stage. The backdrop literally came to life with sounds, colors, and actual water. And to see the look on our Little Mans face in this World of Wonder was priceless. It really transported you into another world for an hour and 15 minutes of on the edge of your seat beauty, grace, and a magical kindgdom. There were the two ladies, that flew on the rings high above the ground! It was absolutely graceful, and just on the edge of sexy, depending on how you wished to view it! As they twisted and turned and relied on each other for balance and support, it forced a well of gratitude in beauty. There was juggling, acrobatics, trapeze, extreme roller skating, statues that come to life, and a sharp shooter with a cross bow that made me hold my breathe!

There was a weird almost cartoon like fisherman that ran the whole show, and made us laugh at times. His escape from his nagging wife led him into his own imagination of fantasy, and he takes us with him on the journey. That’s where we dive into the actual water on the stage. The use of lighting, video, hologram, live performers, and sound took you to another planet, the planet of WOW. We absolutely loved this show, and the pictures here aren’t going to do it justice!!

Another really fun thing was we got the opportunity to see one of the suites in the Rio. WOW! This was like a huge apartment. It had 3 floors. The main floor had a bathroom, 2 living rooms, kitchen/bar, a small office, and a dining room. The downstairs had a giant walk in closet with a bedroom, fitness room, and an incredible Jacuzzi jet bathtub. The upstairs had another 2 bedrooms with a Jacuzzi jet bathtub as well as the BEST walk in closet I’ve ever seen. WOW!! Here is a little bit of the suite. Our friend was actually staying in it, so, we didn't want to take any pics of anything personal. :)

WOW! This is one hell of a post! I def looks like you had a great time! I def would have been pretty confused with the 'poe poe scam' thing myself...still a bit mind blowing for me.

I LOVED seeing the kiss-mobile...but the biggest shocker..you had a grandchild! No way! :P

LOL!! Yes, @sykochica Jamie and I are grandparents, and our grandson is the cutest. (of course!). He's got so much personality! I have to get his glow stick dance on camera! So funny!
