Enchanting sunset, unique views, whitewashed houses hanging over the caldera, picturesque alleys, beautiful chapels and mysterious energy. These are only some of what you get when you visit Santorini!

It’s definitely among the most popular destinations around the world since when you think about sunset, Santorini is the first thing that comes to your mind! We had the chance to visit this amazing place many times in the past, but we decided to go once more as you can never get enough of these views. So we arrange a spring getaway to the beautiful Kalisti (this is how the Phoenicians named Santorini, because of her beauty, when they settled on the island in 1300 BC).

We traveled with Seajets, which offered us a comfortable, safe and fast journey. We departed from Piraeus port early in the morning and after enjoying a pleasant and comfortable trip, we arrived at Santorini.

We decided to stay at Fira, located almost in the center of the island, as we had only two days and wanted to visit places in both north and south sides of Santorini. Our accommodation choice was Kalisti Hotel & Suites, which combines tranquility and elegance.
Just five minutes from the center of Fira, Kalisti Hotel & Suites is the best choice to discover the capital of Santorini and beyond. The enchanting caldera waits for you, just a few steps away. The famous Oia is a 20 minutes ride, as is Akrotiri, a village in the southern part of the island.

Our room, modern and comfortable, was just what we needed to relax and begin our photographic trip through the island!

The first day we decided to discover Fira and in no more than 5 minutes we experienced this magnificent view! The weather was ideal for strolling around the picturesque cobblestone streets of Fira and the season was appropriate as the number of tourists has not yet started to grow significantly!

Fira is the capital of Santorini and its largest settlement. It is the focus of social life, entertainment and shopping. Below Fira is the old harbor, Gialos, where the cruise ships tie and there is also the famous cable car that connects the old harbor with Fira.

We wandered in the picturesque streets of Fira, we met the famous donkeys and enjoyed our coffee admiring the sunset!

Back to Kalisti to get some rest and relax as the next day we would visit Akrotiri with its characteristic lighthouse, Megalochori and Oia.

Next day started with a delicious breakfast and some walk around the hotel. The elegant rooms and suites of Kalisti Hotel offer you everything you need to relax and enjoy your holidays!

First stop of the day was the Akrotiri Lighthouse, at the southwest end of the island.
The lighthouse was built in 1982 by the French Lighthouse Company and it is 10 meters tall. It works fully automated since 1988. If you ever visit Santorini, make a stop here to enjoy the beautiful view and to escape for a while from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the island.

Next stop was the picturesque Megalochori.
Megalochori will steal your heart with its unique aesthetics. Here you will find absolute peace and respect for tradition. The area of Megalohori is well-known for its vineyards and here you will meet some well-known wineries such as Boutari.
We left behind Megalochori and headed to the beautiful Oia. The ride from one end of the island to the other takes about 40 minutes.

What to say about Oia? It is really hard to find words to describe what you feel when you are in this unique part of the planet! It is probably the most characteristic place of the Cyclades and certainly one of the most photographed in Greece.
If you have already visited Oia then you can definitely understand what i mean! If you have never been to this beautiful place, I hope I can convince you that it is definitely worth it!
If you are passionate about photography, like me, you would feel that you could hardly capture what your eyes see, no matter how many days you would spend in Oia. Wherever you look, a different Cycladic frame, amazing color schemes and dream-like views.
We spent many hours wandering around the picturesque alleys, waiting for … the sunset! Every afternoon, crowds of people are flocking to Oia to enjoy its famous sunset and especially during the summer months you have to try hard to find a not overcrowded spot. Visitors from all over the world dream of getting to Santorini and especially Oia.


We filled both our mind and camera with beautiful images and returned to our hotel as this was the last day of our spring escape. If you decide to visit Santorini, I suggest that you stay in Fira so that you can easily move around the island and discover its many different faces.
