[JAPAN 2019 | ep.4] The beauty of Kyoto 💮 Walking Through Higashiyama

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

Sunday 28th April 2019, we are on our fourth day of our Japan's trip 🇯🇵. This is our first awakening in Kyoto (we arrived yesterday at the end of the day) and it is time to see how it has changed in 10 years, if my brain has romanticized my memories (so much I fell under the charms of this city) or not.

And we can say that it starts off pretty well with a Shintoist procession just below the Airbnb.

We are in the golden week period (in addition this year with the abdication of the King, the Japanese were allowed 4 more days compared to usual) and as a result it is the opportunity for a lot of religious procession and exit from portable temples in all districts. The Golden Week which takes place between the end of April and the beginning of May is really a week that I appreciate, even if there are usually more people, it's so lively and surprising!

Enough chatter, it's time to review our program for the day, which is actually not very complicated. Go to Kyoto bus station to take one and go to the Higashiyama district and let us carry, so much to see there.

Last little glance at the Kyoto tower and here we go.

And here we are at the foot of the small street, with its beautiful wooden house, which goes up to the 46-meter tall pagoda Yasaka of the ⛩️️️️ Hōkanji (法観寺) temple of the Zen Rinzai Buddhist School.

Even if as expected there are a lot of people, it is still very nice to see all these kimono with shimmering colors from the many rental shops very popular with tourists.

A few street animations also plunge us a little deeper into what this historic district might have looked like in the feudal era.

I'm really starting to think that my memory hasn't played a trick on me because I'm back under the spell. We have been gone for some time and we no longer realize the time that passes, so much we are absorbed by our stroll in these narrow streets that are overhung by the pagoda.

Especially since there are many small shops along the way, whether they are souvenir shops, fabrics, decorations, restaurants, tea shops, etc...

We take a little height and we see the pagoda say hello to the Kyoto tower in the distance, when tradition says hello to the modern, aaaahhhh Japan and its gift of marrying the two with such complicity!

Finally! We finally arrived at Ryōzen Kannon (霊山観音), we can really say that we took our time to get there, even the sun is tired of lighting us up and decides to go to bed on tiptoe. Near the ⛩️️️️ Kōdaiji temple (高台寺) the Ryōzen Kannon (霊山観音) and its huge statue of the goddess of mercy (24m high) was built in 1955 to promote peace and honour the memory of the Japanese and Allied soldiers who died in the Pacific War.

Then we will end up with my little crush of the day, a small temple that with the twilight and its lighting really touched me without counting the way back to the fallen night that amazed me.

But all of these, well..... it's in the video bellow 😂 Hahahaha 🤣

It looks like a great day! I wish I could visit Japan one day...

How long did you stay there?

Have a lovely day!

it was :) Wishing you to be able to go there soon.

10 days, mainly between Osaka and Kyoto but there are many other beautiful areas in Japan, I had done some ten years ago.

Thanks, you too

Oh how I adore your pictures of Kyoto!!! It's all very beautifully captured, especially those streets with people in their kimonos. It's a mesmerizing sight. How I wish we could visit this place too. But for now, I don't have a choice but to enjoy your photography as you take us along in your travels! Hahaha! 😂😉 Thanks for the "free ride."

It took me 10 years to get back there, so I can understand, it's true that it's a beautiful place and it marks a life. There is a before and after Japan so my advice especially never give up this dream;) Wishing you to be able to go there soon.

Aw, thank you so much for giving me hope. 😉
