This tourist metropolis of Montenegro is about 2,500 years old and is one of the oldest towns on the Adriatic Sea. The coastal area, called the Budva Riviera, is the center of Montenegrin tourism and is well-known for its well-preserved medieval town, sandy beaches and vivid nightlife.

Old town from the 9th century

The city walls are about 1 km long. The old town of Budva is a unique architectural and urban milieu surrounded by medieval walls built in the 9th century. In the earthquake in 1667, the city walls and towers were demolished, and new walls were built on the foundations of the old. You can stroll the entire length of the walls and enjoy the beautiful view of the city and the surrounding beaches.

The Ballerina

This statue is on the way to the Mogren beach. It was inspired by an old local legend about a girl who loved a sailor who never came back. The girl remained faithful and every morning she came to this rock. She spent her day looking out at the open sea, expecting her fiancé to return. Years went by, ships appeared and many sailors went and came, but her fiancé did't return. She was waiting for him until one day she was found dead on the rock.

Mogren Beach

Right after you pass the Ballerina statue you will see one of the most prestigious beaches on the southern Adriatic. It's actually two beaches connected by a tunnel. A combination of huge rocks, sand and crystal water make it attractive also for off-season bathing, fishing and walking. When you google this beach you will see articles about a young student who got killed by a great white here in the 1950's. His memorial panel is still visible.

Saint Nicolas - Hawaii

The island of Saint Nicolas is the largest Montenegrin island in the Adriatic. The Hawaii restaurant has been on the island for a long time, so that's the name that this island is known for. Today the island is partly privatized, there is a new restaurant and cafe bar, 4 modern beaches, and the construction of a marina is planned. There is also a church dedicated to St. Nicholas, the patron sailor, to which the island was named. This blue lagoon is a dream come true for divers.

Sveti Stefan

Semi-detached island Sveti Stefan is one of the most exclusive summer resorts in the Mediterranean, with the adaptation of stone houses on the island. The resort was named after the church on the top of the island, dedicated to St. Stephen. Sveti Stefan has for some centuries been a fishing village, until the building of luxurious apartments and rooms in stone houses started in the mid 50's.
