🎿 Our stay in Kaltenbach, Austria – Das Kaltenbach Apart Hotel – A review

The Kaltenbach.
A big name for a hotel in a town with the same name.

We are very much looking forward to our stay. The description on their website promises a relaxing sauna experience after a long day of skiing, pre ordered massages and a fun evening in the indoor/outdoor pool.

Since we traveled as a group we booked an apartment with a separate double bedroom. This way we were able to make our own food on occasion and have a room for our group to hang out together comfortably.
Upon arrival in Kaltenbach we could have informed the hotel and they would have picked us up free of charge. But we are such an athletic group that we decided to walk – about 10 minutes. 😉
What we didn’t know was that the hotel is located on a hill and the small street that leads up to the hotel is pretty steep and exhausting to walk up, especially with luggage 😁 Next time we’ll take them up on their offer to pick us up…

Entering the hotel gave me a cozy feeling. The temperature was nice and warm, the fireplace was burning and the warm welcome of their employee was much appreciated.
She gave us the keys to our rooms and a complimentary key card for a locker at the valley station for our skies.
That was wonderful and unexpected! A locker costs about 45 Dollars for a week.

We were guided to our rooms upstairs. Same feeling here. Very warm and cozy with high quality furniture and solid woodwork.

Our room as well as the apartment are spacious with a balcony and terrace, modern bathroom and a fluffy carpet.

They have a bar downstairs in the lobby where you can enjoy a few snacks and drinks. We actually used their services quite a bit and more than I expected!

We booked breakfast for every morning. The breakfast buffet is inclusive for the double bedroom but not included in the price for the apartment.
What I really liked was that they prepared a big table for our group of 8 and a baby every morning. 😊

That’s what I call a good start into a skiing day 😃
The buffet offered a selection of bread, bread rolls and croissants. Sweet and salty spreads. Different types of granola, cereal and yoghurt. Fresh fruits and vegetables. Hard boiled eggs and freshly made scrambled eggs with toppings of your choice. As well as pancakes and small cakes.
For drinks they offered a variety of tea, coffee and the very best in my opinion…. freshly juiced orange juice! You can never have enough Vitamin C on a vacation in the snow. 😉

The hotel organizes a taxi service to the valley station every morning. We used their service a few times, other times we walked because we decided to start the day even earlier. The valley station is only about 5-10 minutes away by foot.
Same applies for the way back in the afternoon. The taxi will take you back at two different times or you could just walk back 😊

The hotel itself is surrounded by a beautiful garden with a….! Petting zoo! The owners have two Alpaca that you can visit right by the hotel building. That of course is a wonderful experience for children.

The owners were very nice and welcoming. We decided to have our last dinner at the hotel and they prepared a table for our group by the window with a beautiful view of the town.

When we left we actually used their offering and they drove us to the railway station.

My conclusion for the hotel ‘Das Kaltenbach’:
5 stars.
A homy, quiet and intimate hotel. Very clean, high quality decoration and attention to detail.
The only thing you have to be careful about is on the way down in the morning. The small steep street is usually cleared of ice and snow and salted – it is even heated – but it was still slippery a few times.

We would definitely come back again when staying in Kaltenbach!
