Travel photograph story: Island of FUERTEVENTURA - The coolest desert on Earth!
Strong fortune
Literally translated Fuerteventura is called the "Strong (fuerte) fortune (ventura)". But it actually means "Strong winds", since the island is the most windy one of all Canary Islands.
That´s why Fuerteventura is a paradise for wind and kite surfers. Here you find endless white beaches in front of windy sea shores - ideal conditions for these kind of water sports.

International wind surf contests are taking place on the island every year - this is when it gets fully crowded. But in any case Fuerteventura is one of the best growing Canary Islands. For many reasons!
Sand & sea
What I like most about Fuerteventura are the sand dunes. Besides the South of Gran Canaria, it´s the only Canary Islands which has such wide and naturally built sand dunes. Since most of the other islands are covered by black volcanic sand, these white hills break up with the typical Canarian landscape and make the island very special.

El Cotillo
Pictures: Wide beaches at the coast of El Cotillo, North-West cape of Fuerteventura and my favorite area to stay on the island. The last time I came here I parked my camping van directly in front of this beach and stayed there for a week :-)

Corralejo
Nowadays Correlejo is one of the most frequented spots of Fuerteventura. Originally it was a small fisher´s village and in my opinion it still has this charm of a traditional "pueblo". Of course today the village is answering to the turistic demand, there are a lot of shops and restaurants. But when you pass by these small sandy streets and smell the fish walking around the harbour´s promenade, you´ll know where all this came from.
