Wanderlust Pocket #1 Join Me In "Ho Chi Minh" - Vietnam

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hello,Steemit Friends

South East Asia region offers so many exquisite destinations to be discovered. I have lived my whole life in Thailand and traveled to more than 15 countries around the world but have never really explore my neighborhood countries.

I want to see more of this part of the world. Today I would like to share my trip to Ho Chi Minh City with you. This is my first time to Vitenam!! As I am here to visit some friends and see this city, why don't I let my fellow Steemits join me. I hope you enjoy my journey as much as I do.

I departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to Tan Son Nhat International Airport. It takes only approximately 1 hours and 18 minutes on flight.

But First !!!

If you ever come to this Airport in Bangkok and looking for some good snacks I highly recommend "The Roll" in King Power Duty Free.

They have so many flavors to choose from.
The best part is that you can taste all of them
before purchasing. 😂

My First Visit is to

"The Central Post Office"

image

Located right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City- at District 1 ,The Central Post Office is one of the oldest buildings in Ho Chi Minh City. It was built around 1886 – 1891.

image

It's a place worth visit if you have a chance to visit this city. It was designed by a French architecture. The central post office is considered one of the most beautiful building in the city.

There are old phone booths with different time zones for travelers to enjoy.

image

While entering the building you'll see souvenir walkway counters on both sides of the hall including postcards, stamps, traditional dolls and hats.

image

My personal favorite was the stamps. As a child, my father and I would collect unique stamps together. We know eventually these items might not exist any longer plus we admire the designs created. I purchased a whole stamp book just for 30$. They are beautifully reflectives of the Vietnamese culture.

Right next to the Central Post Office is a charming little cafe call "Cafe de la poste". They offer coffee, drink and some snacks.

Overall, what Really took me by surprise during my first day here was the Traffic and transportation chaos. There are many mores motorcycles here compared to Thailand. It's hard enough for me to concentrate when I drive in Bangkok, I don't think I could drive here in Vietnam.

image

Despite that, The people are lovely and very friendly Very similar to Thais. In my opinion our language's tone is very similar, yet I don't understand anything they say.
( As I am fluent in Thai language)

I really enjoy spending my day at the Central post office.

While walking back to the hotel I spotted a man wearing the traditional Vietnamese hat. Its so lovely to see new generations still keep the unique cultural symbol.

I'm looking forward to see and learn more about Vitenam during my time here. Thank you for comments and votes guys!!

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to my home country :) I've always wanted to travel to Thailand! I heard that it is beautiful there.

But yeh, I know what you mean about driving in Vietnam. When I was there (I live in the U.S. now), I rode on a bus and there were was only one road with no lanes. Cars were literally just switching sides on the road dodging each other to go faster O_O.

Fun Fact (or not so fun): Do you remember the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan (2011)? The death toll for that disaster is equivalent to Vietnam's traffic accidents related death, each year! Vietnam's traffic is considered a "hidden" epidemic that kills thousands of people yearly.

Anyways, I really enjoyed the post! Hope I didn't scare you too much with that fun fact haha. But I hope you have a fun and safe rest of the trip :)!

Love,

Thong

Thank u Thong !! Wow I didn't know that it was that many death per year. I think Thailand is the second or third down the line for sure. Gives me anxiety attacks. 😅😅 Yes Vietnam and Thailand are so closed by, you should consider visiting on your next trip !!

I definitely plan on it 😁! Do you have any recommendations on where to visit in Thailand specifically?
