📸 Battle of the Cruise Ships + 6 Panoramic Photos from our Caribbean Cruise by SteemPowerPics

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I wanted to share a few more of my panoramic pictures I took last year before the hurricanes ravaged some of our favorite islands. We love to take cruises and try to go at least once a year to the Caribbean. A few of these pictures are from St. Martin, which was hit by both hurricanes Irma and Maria a few weeks ago.

As I mentioned in my previous post with pictures from St. Thomas, we were left speechless by the first images that came out of the islands we love so much and spent a few days going through our cruise albums looking at pictures not knowing when we will be able to visit there again. The islanders are generally good people and it gives us a sense of helplessness seeing their loss at a distance.

As you may already know, I have a passion for photography and whenever we travel I like to spend a little extra time capturing wide panoramic photos of the landscapes and interesting moments.

A Friendly Battle of the Ships

As we were getting ready to set sail, it is customary for the ship about to move to sound the ships main horn in a long steady blast for a few seconds - usually resulting in everyone cheering from both the ship leaving and the ones docked next to it.

On this evening both ships were from Royal Caribbean, we were on the new Harmony of the Seas, and the Freedom of the Seas was next to us. For whatever reason people were having a cheering contest back and forth before any horns were sounded, like a who can scream louder contest. This went back and forth a few times when out of nowhere the captain of the Freedom gave a few short blasts of the ship's horn which got everyone all worked up and screaming more. This in turn got a matching response from our ship. This volley went back and forth a few times before the Freedom held the main horn for a good 4 second blast to kinda raise the stakes.

Naturally this could not go unanswered by the fleet's newest flagship...
BWHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Our captain unloaded with the loudest and deepest horns I have ever heard blasting from a cruise ship for a solid 10 seconds. The sound was deafening and shook us to our core. This was followed by the passengers on both ships cheering and whistling almost as loud as we pulled away from the dock.

That was by far the most fun we had pulling out of port.
