Hi Steemit friends,
Today I'd like to share the short history and facts of one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, explore the city's sacred temples, grand pyramids. Pre-Columbian city built by the Maya people, Chichen Itza; was a major focal point in the Northern Maya Lowlands from the Late Classic AD 600–900.

Chichen Itza is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico with over 2 million tourists in 2016.

Chichén Itzá was the capital of the ancient Maya.

Marvel at the towering Temple of Kukulkan which—standing 75 feet (22 m) high—is adorned with the image of Kukulkan, the Mayan feathered snake god.

Twice a year on each solstice, the sun hits this dazzling step pyramid at just the right angle so the shadows create a snake that winds down the steps.

Then stop to ponder the rows of stone pillars in the Temple of a Thousand Columns and gaze into the deep waters of the Cenote Sagrado, or Sacred Well, where the Maya made countless human sacrifices to appease their gods.

The Maya name "Chichen Itza" means "At the mouth of the well of the Itza. This place has been the site that contains many fine stone buildings in various states of preservation, and many have been restored.

Here's a short video from my trip to Chichen Itza. Please enjoy :)

such an amazing place, wuould love to vi sit there some day..

This is a great post! I've been there! It's amazing to witness in real life. Apparently there are lots of hills in the area where more pyramids are buried (they've done scans on them) but the local people are too poor to excavate. If I recall correctly, I think Germany or Holland were going to finance these amazing finds...

@aussieninja Nice! Yes, it seems like that area has only been vaguely research... word has it that there's a lot of treasures hidden :) Thank you for your comment and best wishes to you always.
