Tragedy of Sad History.

in #travel7 years ago

While walking along the wall, I could find so many wall stones which have been using as house foundation and blocks.

With the colonial rule by imperial Japan, the wall of Choson dynasty had been collapsed quickly.

Some walls were removed for house building and stones were changed it’s mission from nation defence to house defence or house building foundation.

So I felt it a kinds of tragedy when I saw the stones which were originally wall stones.

some stones became the wall of a house.

some walls became a foundation of a house building

They build a house on the wall.

Small gate of the wall was blocked.

Some walls were cut by the house building.

Could it be possible in normal country ?

The nation, king and nobles could not defend their country and people.
So people didn’t need show respect to the wall and think the wall important.

So they use the wall stones for their house building. I could find so many stones using for house building.

steps

not only for the poor, but also the rich

No one ever had restraint to remove walls and move the stones.

That’s the traces caused by the tragedy of history.

The wall had suffered the historical pain with it’s people.

Beautiful pictures

Thanks for sharing the history of this amazing wall.
My friend, I enjoy reading your posts. I love the rich history of your land.

Nice photo @slowwalker thank you for sharing

Great photos.

Wow, thanks for showing us this! I can see your point that the wall is sort of like a metaphore for the customs and traditions of Seoul that were not preserved due to colonial rule and other interests. The history of Seoul is really fascinating.

Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the upper boulders in the sun;
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.
The work of hunters is another thing:
I have come after them and made repair
Where they have left not one stone on a stone

It is one thing to mend a wall, @slowwalker, it is another thing to disrespect and destroy it. These people have no regard for tradition or the past, and unlike you, they never reflect on what they are doing.

The ancient walls are part of the heritage and culture of Seoul and it's shameful to allow people to flaunt it and use the stones for their own purposes simply to save money on construction.

My wife and I often go on hikes on trails around our home and we see plants and rocks in the woods that we would like to use in our garden, but we don't take them. People need to respect things - plants and animals and all the natural beauty around us--and to protect our cultural heritage.

This was a good post, @slowwalker, highlighting the need to protect our traditions and our national monuments and buildings.

:)

Nice pictures

What a fascinating perspective on historical site.

These stones structures are really very solid @slowwalker! It will stay there for a lot of time more! More and more generations will witness these!
Was it hot today walking along the wall mate?
Cheers and thank you again for sharing these historical facts of your country!
