Tracking of the Seoul Walls 2, Lives near the Walls

in #travel7 years ago

I didn't noticed before that common people's life was so close with the walls.
It was strange why I couldn't see the rich near the walls.
Every people and every village I met and saw were poor. I didn't understand the reason why. But because of that the walls were occupied by the poor.
So while walking along the walls I could felt common people's culture more closely.

Along the wall, people were living.

oldwomen with oldwomen

oldmen with oldmen

There were lots of old houses just next to the walls , but sometimes I could read the hope from small and green trees in front of old houses.

There were small gates through where people could pass in and out.

Over the walls there were houses had been built densely

Passing the hill, scenary was changed. I could see more wealthier form of living.
Combination and contrast between past and present gave me subtle excitement.
Anyway scenary was really nice and beautiful to take an look.
You cannot tell that you ever have visited Seoul without taking a look at this scenary.

I went out from inside to outside. There were real walls.
It was another experience to looking at the views from out side.

Next time I like to post relating to the walls and views from out side.

Thank you for reading

Thank you for posting @slowwalker, nim.

Lovely writing and photographs of your observation.

Inequality is always a result of freedom. Freedom to suceed...freedom to fail.

Yet....everyone can have happiness no matter the strata they find themselves in.

Thank you for opportunity to think on these things.

Wishing you and yours all the best....regards to your mum especially. Cheers.

nice pictures

So it's like a partition then. There's a wall that represents the lower class. Where will they be in the next 10-20 years from now. Good read and great photos too. Cheers.

Great pictures! I think you were lucky to live there. What kind of camera did you use? Or are these pictures on the camera phone?

Here is a latest post of mine.. Upvote if you like it :)

thanks for the great content , what does the banner on the wall say?

Please clean the dog's shit. Hahaha

Very interesting, I am happy to hear stories about the life of the people there. Unfortunately I have not been able to place it, one day maybe yes.

walls always mark a divide, and so every wall is a metaphor for boundaries.

The fact that the rulers of Seoul City would go to such time and expense to build a wall says something in itself - either that the military was too weak to adequately defend the citizens, or lawlessness and many evil things took place outside the city walls.

You focussed on the inside of the walls, @slowwalker, and you showed the cramped houses of the poor pushed up against the fortifications.

That location would have been undesirable because of the constant patrols, and the coming and going of people entering and leaving the city. It would have been congested and noisy.

The only escape would be living higher up the mountain away from the density and noise and as your pictures show, many built homes right into the hillside to enjoy the peace and the lovely views.

In the present time, the wall defines Seoul - it's part of its character and its soul. There is no physical divide between rich and poor but there is a huge economic gap that affects their lifestyles.

Seoul is a city where the present, past and future intersect and traditional walls still exist, but are slowly giving way to a new world order.

Very graphic photos of contrasting ways of life, @slowwalker.

Thank you for your interpretation as always
