The Differences in the Shape between Chinese Bell and Korean BellsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #travel5 years ago

There seemed to exist some differences between Chinese and Korean Bells.
I’d like to compare those 2 bells.
Chinese bell must be that bell I looked at Jeon Deung Sa temple and Korea Bell is the bell I saw in Yong Ju Sa temple where I came by with my mom.

At first glance, those bells looked like similar, but as always the differences exist in detailed place.
What I’d like show you at first is the sound tube on the top of the bell.

In Korean bell, there is the sound tube at the top of the bell to make sound more profound and make the sound wave go longer.

But in Chinese bell, I haven’t heard of the sound tube.
I could found that fact in Chinese bell of Jeon Deung Sa temple.
There was no sound tube there.

The specialists told there was a great difference in making a nice sound according to the fact weather there is a sound tube or not.

The second point is the bottom line of the bell
Korean bell seemed to have simple bottom line.
But it was regrettable that I couldn't take the photos of the bottom line of the bell.

But Chines bell looked like to show us more complicated bottom line.
Even though it looked not important, but this tiny difference show us a big difference of the view point of the beauty.
Koreans tend to have the preference to the simple design, but Chinese seemed to prefer to the more complicated and gaudy style.

The third point is the patterns and the carvings on the body of the bell.
The difference regarding the patterns and the carvings seemed to be related with their traditional culture.
Korean designs on the body seemed to have close relationship with the folk myth.

On the other hands Chinese designs looked like so close with their traditional philosophy.

@slowwalker,
Wow this might be a very useful and an experimented article! Until today I thought it's a the same bell that used by both countries, but now I learnt what's the differences of them!
Would like to request you, if you have a chance, can you please explain us how Korean Bell becomes different from Japan bell as well!

Cheers~

I think the reason for the Korean bell was simplification and travel of sound really, they wanted a purified and amazing sound, so that's the reason I guess for the modifications really, however I guess the Chinese wanted more of a sophistication design you know, that's why this is just my evaluation, wow amazing shots

Nice detail in the explanations. I've been learning a lot about Korean and Chinese cultures. Very interesting. Thank you for sharing @slowwalker.

The devil is in the details, @slowwalker.

This is not merely a photo comparison of two bells but two cultures, and perhaps, two solitudes.

All art is reflective of the time and place as is the culture. Does the one predate the other, or do they both walk hand in hand?

In a world that is mechanized and digitalized we are losing many beautiful sounds - trains, foghorns, bells - soon we may forget ourselves and inhabit a non-localized and generic world of synthesized and virtual reality.

When we preserve culture and art we preserve our identity.

Have a good day, my friend.

Really very very beautiful photography.... And excellent post. My dear friend @slowwalker

Wow very interesting bell.I am so glad to see it.Your post topic is very awesome

Bells in the old times are used to call the faithful to go to the church @slowwalker and maybe in the future there will be no more use of them but to just display and learn from its history.

Thank you for explaining the differences. The etchings look so beautiful.

I was very interested in explaining the comparison between China and Korea.

All Bells are Amazing once you Think about what it would take to make these Bells so many years ago @slowwalker........
