Jeolla Military Fortress in Gang Jin
In this post, I’d like to introduce a military fortress in Gang Jin area.
Traditionally, the main threats in Korean peninsular were from two sides, south and north.
Northern threat was mainly from China, and Southern threat was from Japan.
Japanese threat through Korean history was very characteristic.
Except the Japanese invasion 1592-1597, main threat from Japan was pirates.
Pirate was a kind of business in Japanese history like England in 15 - 6 century.
So military fortress in Gang Jin was the center of protecting people and property from the Japanese pirates.
This fortress was demolished under the rule of the Imperial Japan.
Now it was rebuilt as below.
Main Gate
The wall
A tree over the wall
The second picture shows off the traditional roof line, so beautifully photographed at an unusual angle.
Is the wall surrounding the building built as it was before it was destroyed? Or is it biult in a more modern fashion?

I think it's first time I could read an article of a fortress at Korea through your posts! Why I could see those walls are thick but short in size! Somehow enemies could easily manage to climb up to it! Anyway it's a new experience for me like always when I read your posts!
