A Quadrilateral Face of Pagoda in Front of Dae Wung Jeon Hall in Wun Ju Sa temple

in #travel5 years ago

There were a bunch of pagodas at the end of the way to the temple.
The appearances of the pagodas were very peculiar and characteristic.
It was the first time for me to see those unique styles of pagodas.
I’ve never seen those kinds of pagodas before.

The first pagoda I saw at the end of the road had a quadrilateral face.
There was a buddha statue in the hall carved at each face.

It reminded me of the pagoda made in Shilla dynasty which was made with the tiles in Gyeong Ju.
Seeing same style of pagoda at the corner of Jeollanamdo province was just amazing.
The pagoda in Wun Ju Sa seemed a small version of the type pagoda in Bun Whang Sa temple.

It was miraculous the fact that there existed common element in pagodas, regardless of such a long distance between those two pagodas.

@slowwalker,
I think it's first time you shared this type of pagoda as well! Never seen and never heard before! Sometimes I feel pagoda's in my country has that type of 4 buddha sculptures in the 4 sides of the pagoda! I think they are having a relation with what you show today! Nice photography and really appreciate your effort!

Cheers~

That one in Bun Whang Sa is most definitely unique in Korea. I think it is one of the oldest, too. Around the time the culture first came to here.

Shilla had a very different type of Buddhist temples than those from later periods like Goguryo or Joseon.

really memorable...!!!

@slowwalker, I will go to Korea in May as a transit to go back to Thailand. you post is so attractive. thank you

These Pagodas look very different from the ones that I have normally seen and the Buddha figure carved inside is something unique to see.

Pagodas are fascinating, here in my place when there is a river feast parade the people seeks to see the "Pagoda" built in one of the boats. @slowwalker

So beautiful template I have read your full post this story very interesting. You are a great blogger

@slowwalker, Yeah...first time I'm seeing like these pagodas. Buddha statue carved inside Pagoda. Shilla dynasty made such a brilliant architecture there in Wun Ju Sa temple. Final one also amazing to see. Surrounding area so impressive.
