Grand Canyon-One of the Seven wonders of the World
We love to travel around the world. One of the seven natural wonders that we visited is in our state, Arizona in the USA.
We have visited Grand Canyon multiple times along with our friends and family. Every time we visit, it appears to be a new experience as it reveals the nature's beauty that I cannot express in words but you simply have to see to believe.
Canyon means deep valley with steep sides along with a stream flowing on it ( Dictionary.com). Grand Canyon is one of the deepest and widest canyons with Colorado river flowing through the valley. It is about 1737 meters (5697 feet) deep. Although there are other deepest Canyons in the world, for example, Kali Gandaki Gorge in Nepal, what makes Grand Canyon popular is its overwhelming size and its scenic landscape that I believe its Gods' handmade creation.
Grand Canyon Geology
There are many theories behind the development of Grand Canyon. Scientists believe that it may have developed 5-6 million years ago. One of the assumptions is that Grand Canyon is developed from volcanic eruptions but others believe that when the Colorado River began to cut a channel through layers of rock, and the land was pushed upwards that added new tributaries to the river increasing the river's flow and adding many of the side Canyons. The beautiful rocks that we see now are from millions of years of erosion.

Geologists have always studied the different layers of Grand canyon walls. According to them there are about forty identified rock layers in Grand Canyon’s walls. Most of these layers are exposed so as geologists have excellent opportunity to study about rocks and details of environmental changes that occurred in the past.
Grand Canyon History
Native Americans were the early inhabitants of Grand Canyon starting about 1200 BC. The first Europeans to reach the Grand Canyon were Spanish explorers in the 1540s. President Benjamin Harris protected the Grand Canyon as a forest reserve in 1893, and Theodore Roosevelt, the former American president, made Grand Canyon as a national monument in 1908, and became an official United States National Park in 1919.
Why Do I say it is one of the best place to visit
First, it is one of the seventh natural wonders of the world. Second, While watching these beautiful sceneries, one would feel each rock resembles a sculpture that was created by the human but it is beyond human creation. It has God's hand in it. See our some of our pictures of Grand Canyon.
