World’s Most Unusual Hotels

in #travel6 years ago

Hotels play a very important role in shaping the memories of our vacations. I myself am not much of a back-packer. But when I travel, I need to know where I am staying and the place I am going to stay matters a lot to me. Some people enjoy travelling to an exotic resort and chilling next to the pool with a glass of drink in one hand and a novel in another. However, if this conventional relaxation is not your cup of tea then you are at the right place.

So, let us look at some really interesting hotels which have a bit quirk to their character. These hotels will definitely give us some holiday goals.

  • Hobbit House (Boulder Canyon, South Dakota)

This whimsical tree house is inspired by The Lord of the Rings and has circular doors and windows, Hobbit slippers and Elvish inscriptions. Now you will actually get to live the story!

  • Underwater Shark Tank (Paris)

When Airbnb collaborated with French firm Ubi Bene, the outcome was a glass capsule submerged 33 feet deep inside a 3 million liter water tank full of sharks. Clearly not for the faint-hearted.

  • Propeller Island City Lodge (Berlin)

Designed by artist Lars Storschen, this extremely bizarre hotel has each room based on a different theme. Quirky themes like green leather suite, levitating bed suite, coffin suite (where the beds are shaped like coffins), mirrored suite and upside down suite.

  • Capsulevalue Kanda (Tokyo, Japan)

Capsule hotel is a popular concept in Japan. The rooms are stacked side-by-side and one on top of another, in order to maximize the space. This concept has now travelled to Europe and Helsinki airport will soon introduce their own capsule hotels.

  • Robot Hotel (Nagasaki, Japan)

Japan’s Henn-na Hotel is the world’s first staffed by robots. The hotel uses Japanese and English-speaking humanoids and robots who serve its guests. Actual humans serve only when the robots fail or malfunction.

  • Treehotel (Harads, Sweden)

This is basically a collection of 7 unique tree houses located in the pine forest around Harads. These include glass capsule-like cabin, lifelike birds’ nest, reflective mirror cube and the UFO. Those who have seen E.T. will be reminded of this movie when they look at the UFO rooms

  • Jumbo Hostel (Stockholm)

Based at Arlanda airport, this retired 747 is a retrofitted hotel has 25 bedrooms for adventuring guests and victims of flights cancellation. The hotel has overhead storage, first-class lounge, sky deck, oxygen masks, cockpit suite, and engine suites with rotor blade venetian blinds.

  • Icehotel (Jukkasjärvi, Sweden)

This is world’s first ice hotel and was opened 20 years ago. Every November ice from the frozen Torne River is fused with snow to remake this hotel. Every suite is redone on a different theme each year.

  • Crazy Bear (Beaconsfield, UK)

The unique rooms of this hotel are inspired from Moulin Rouge, Las Vegas and planet Mars and are inside the oldest and most historic building of Beaconsfield. It has a quirky yet beautiful staircase decorated with foliage painted in 24-carat gold leaf, Persian pony skin on the walls of the bar, dripping chandeliers and a creepy mirrored chill-out room.

  • Giraffe Manor (Nairobi, Kenya)

The Giraffe Manor goes back to the 1930s when European visitors used to visit Narobian safaris. The most fascinating thing about this hotel is the herd of friendly giraffes that resides just outside it. Guests can often see these giraffes poking their long necks through windows in search for a treat.

These were some of the unique hotels that I have on my list. Tell me what you think about this post. Would you like to visit any of these places? Or if you know of any usually attractive hotels, do let us know in the comments section.
