Amateur Adventures #54: My Top 5 Travel Adventures in Photos - Part 1 - Morocco

Olives in Meknes Markets.jpg

Hello Lovely Steem Peeps,

As you may know, @cryptoandzen and I are currently having a stay-cation. We've been mostly good in getting out during the day and not stuck at home doing chores (mostly).

It might seem strange that I'm writing abut trips abroad during my holiday at home - but a staycation has also given me a bit of time to sort through the thousands of photos (and I do mean thousands) that I have taken on my travels.

I love going through them occasionally and bringing back some of those great memories.

I figured now was as good a time as any to share them and a little bit about the story that goes with them.

I hope you enjoy!

Morocco

Morocco evokes memories of bright colour, spicy smells, noisy markets and vast deserts dotted with cool sheltering oases. It was a country long on my list of places to see. There had always seemed something magical about the souks in Marrakesh and I longed to visit. It did not disappoint.

Whether it was gaining an understanding of a religion and culture vastly different from my own. Camping in the Sahara and the realisation of how insignificant we are after staring up into the night sky not clouded by no pollution - only the noises of the desert as a backdrop.. Eating in the street markets, seeing the day to day life of locals in the souks. The people, the food, the architecture, the landscape, the experiences!

The Places - Man-made and Natural

There are just so many amazing places to see in Morocco - from the desert and mountains, to the amazing mosques and palaces, whether natural or man-made, the colours and the scale is simply amazing.

The People

I'm always fascinated by the local culture where ever I go. Its an opportunity to learn about the wider world, especially as I am lucky enough to have born into what really is a privileged life. Seeing other cultures and how people live gives you an appreciation for what you've got. Sometimes I think some of them have it right.. it's a much simpler life, priorities (often out of necessity) are different - we could learn a lot.

The Food

I'm a foodie at heart and slightly obsessed with spices. Of course Moroccan food is cleverly spiced, simple vegetable dishes turned into amazing explosions of flavour through their clever seasoning.

street markets.jpg
The night food markets in Jemaa el Fna are an assault on the senses. Street vendors yelling for customers, the smells of food sizzling on the bbqs, the myriad of colours. It was my favourite place to be in all of Morocco.

Spices and vegetables make up these delicious dips - with some bread, almost a meal on their own!

The colourful spices in the souks (markets), a feast for all the senses and what drew me to Morocco to begin with

It was really hard to narrow 2073 photos (lucky I was only there for 10 days) down to these 15. But I hope it conveyed the amazingness of Morocco and inspires you to get out and explore this wonderful little rock we live on.
