Hello lovely Steemians,

I did say it wouldn't be long til I'd be sharing some more travel adventures. After introducing my Princess Cat Ava HERE and showing off my veggie garden HERE and finally getting my meditation on while going for a run HERE, it was time to get back to traipsing around the world.

We are going to take a break from the the Middle East for a while and head on over to Europe - the Czech Republic - to be specific.

I absolutely loved Prague and despite that we spent a fair wack of it in bed with food poisoning (I'm pretty sure we picked up in Rome Airport) I saw enough to know I am keen to get back and explore it properly. @cryptoandzen unfortunately saw quite a bit less of it than me. Those $1 over the counter antibiotics from Egypt worked a treat - but sadly for him there were only enough left for one :)

Charles Bridge Tourists.jpg

So while he rested up in preparation for our upcoming backpacking bus tour across eastern Europe, I managed to get out and see at least the more famous sites. Sadly we had to skip some of the day tours we'd planned surrounding Prague (and the microbrewery beer tour we were really looking forward to) but there is more than enough in the city itself to keep you occupied for five or six half days of playing tourist.

Personally I'd recommend staying in the Old Town - there are some wonderful little microbreweries that rent out rooms and this really is the area where everything is "happening". We stayed at Hotel U Tri Pstrosu (The Three Ostriches) right at the end of the bridge. Unfortunately by the time we arrived food poisoning had hit in full force and we had four flights of narrow stairs to drag our bag up... which was a bummer as any other time the top floor room would have been a big score!

Let's take a quick explore around Prague at some of my favourite sites that I'll be covering in more details in future posts.

Charles Bridge

The Charles Bridge is a historic bridge crossing the Vtlava river, separating the "Old Town" from the rest of Prague.

Vtlava River.jpg

The Bridge is also famous for it's avenue of statues that depict various saints. In 1965 the statues started being systematically replaced by replicas and the originals are now in the National Museum.

During the day the bridge is bustling with tourists and artists. At night it can have an otherworldly feeling to it.

Ghostly Prague.jpg
No idea how I managed to capture this shot - but it really did sum up that whole ghostly feeling Prague has

Enter into the Old Town through the Old Town Bridge Towere - argualbe one of the most beautiful Gothic gateways found anywhere in the world.

Prague Castle & St Vitus Cathedral

A must see is the St Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle - and it is a building that dominates the city's skyline. It's a Gothic masterpiece and the spiritual symbol of the Czech Republic. The cathedral took several centuries to build - from it's commissioning in 1344 to it's consecration in 1929. For years after that the interior was still subject to adaptations.

Around Prague

Just exploring the city gives you plenty of interesting sites - certainly things we don't see back at home in Sydney! In fact some of these sites are far older than our whole country!

The Astronomical Clock was installed in 1410 and is the oldest one still in operation.

You can discover the strange and dark side of Prague history. Between the 12th and 14th centuries, Prague was the alchemical and mystical center of Europe.

Try some absinthe the traditional way if you are game, but things might look a bit funny afterwards.

Scared of clowns - be careful which parks you walk through.

Maybe you are scared of puppets - stay away from the marionette theater in that case!

There is plenty to see in this amazing city. We can't wait to go back - in full health this time - and really explore its magical mysteries.
