☯ Taoism - how to meditate with a basin filled with water?
Today I will show you an interesting way of meditation used in the Tao temples.
But let's first check what is the Taoism.
Taoism is a traditional Chinese philosophical system. Some people think that the Tao is a religion, but as my guide through the Tao Temple said, it is a philosophy of life.
He has been taking care of the Tao temple for years and has been practicing the Tao all his life, although he is a Christian. I also learned from him that this is not an obstacle and that people of many different faiths can practice the Tao.
In Wikipedia we can read that we divide Taoism into philosophical and religious.
My guide, however, did not confirm this. According to him, the Tao is a way of life, not a religion.
The power of water is most often related to the Tao because water is its best expression.
This was well illustrated by Raymond Tang, who exploring and applying ancient Chinese philosophy in the modern world, during one of the TED talks.
“If we think about water flowing towards a rock, it will just flow around it. It doesn’t get upset, it doesn’t get angry, it doesn’t get agitated. In fact, it doesn’t feel much at all. When faced with an obstacle, somehow water finds a solution, without force, without conflict.”
Now I will show you what is used for meditation in the Tao temples.
This is a large basin filled with water. By rubbing the edges of the bowl with your hands, we vibrate the water molecules and we can hear the specific sound of this "instrument". I have recorded a short video on which you can watch the ceremony:

This experience relaxed me very much and calmed me down. I'm not surprised that this method is used for meditation.
