In our last post we reported about our walk through Dresden (deutsch, english).
For exploring the art museums of Dresden, we decided to buy the "two-day museum ticket" at the Residenzschloss (27 EUR per person or cheaper via "Dresden city" for 22 EUR per person).
The Residenzschloss was the seat of the Saxon electors and kings from 1547 to 1918, and therefore one of the oldest buildings in Dresden. The Residenzschloss was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War in 1945. The ruins remained untouched during the times of the DDR/GDR due to committed citizens. This was very important for the ongoing reconstruction of the Residenzschloss that starts in the 1980s.

In order to protect the restored inner courtyard from weather influences and to make waiting for the visitors in front of the museums more pleasant, the courtyard was covered with a light-filled dome.
