In Ireland in the 1960s it was the cheapest soap you could get. Few people had washing machines in those days so they used the big red bars of Lifebuoy soap to scrub the kids and the laundry.

Most popular soap definitely. In 50s perfumed soaps took over, but in India many still stick to it, because the soap is simple and never have been an issue.
