Road Trip: Day 7 - Asheville, NC (Our New Favorite Place!) Part 1

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Ashville by far exceeded our already high expectations. It is the coolest city ever! So many Farm to Table restaurants, breweries, and conscious open-minded people! It is a colorful and eccentric city with an appreciation for the health of humanity and the planet.

Before we even got into Asheville itself we knew we were in for a treat, right off the highway we found this place:

The Bean Trees Cafe located at 3601 Hartford Rd, Hartford, TN 37753

We thought it was just a little coffee shop across from the gas station and we headed over for some organic coffee and a ginger energy drink, which we saw on the sign.

It turned out to be an amazing little place with a full menu, outdoor riverside seating, and a welcoming down to earth vibe.

Next stop was to West KOA campground, located 20mins outside of downtown Asheville.

One of the best parts of this city, is that it's nestled in the mountains so nature is always on your doorstep.

This here was the best idea ever! You can rent a "primitive cabin" for around $60 per night!

It comes with power outlets, a full size bed, a desk, and a bunk bed! Oh and did I mention air conditioning!

Right outside of the cabin is the community kitchen area, a fire pit with swing chairs, and the bathrooms, which are inside the main building. The bathrooms, by the way, are immaculately clean, with granite counter tops and what looks like freshly varnished wood.

The only minor downside to the cabins is that they are all right next door to each other, but so are all of the RVs at any camp ground. So if privacy is your main concern then bring your tent and choose a nice spot out in the woods.

There are hiking trails all around the property too, which is where we found Turkey Tail mushrooms growing. Check out my post about it here.

After we got settled in we hit the town.
First stop was an amazing brewery called Ginger's Revenge, where they brew ginger beer!

The ginger beer was amazing, with so many flavors and varieties.

The store front, however, leaves a lot to be desired! I'll post this plain picture so that if you go there, you'll know you're in the right place!

Top Tip: There is a deal available on the website Groupon, that includes a flight of ginger beer, 2 souvenir glasses, and an empty growler for $17! We used it for our visit and filled our new growler with the Pear Rosemary ginger beer.

After that we went to dinner at a vegetarian restaurant called The Laughing Seed, it has a large amount of organic farm to table ingredients with vegan, gluten free, and raw options.

I ordered an Orange Creamsicle to drink, upgraded with Kava Kava and Damiana, it was delicious!

We shared a Midnight Mushroom Ramen Bowl and the Thai Panang Curry.

The soup was deliciously salty, savory, and spicy.
The curry came with crispy fried balls of tofu!

Both where amazing and we really wanted to go back for more but there were just too many other places to visit in one trip!

That night we hopped around town on a very quiet Sunday night. We did some research and scoped out a couple places with Electronic Dance Music (EDM).

The first spot was called The Imperial Life

It's a small but cozy place with expensive fancy drinks made with real ingredients.

Like this watermelon daquiri, for example. It's made with fresh watermelon juice and rum. I was surprised to learn that a proper daiquiri is actually only a 3oz drink, as opposed to the usual frozen daiquiri, which is all I've ever had.

After that we went to Timo's House which was empty and we got the whole place pretty much to ourselves! A full dance floor and pool table, complete with craft beer and EDM blasting on the speakers.

We hadn't been there long when we heard the unmistakable sound of Florida Break Beats. Which is a genre of EDM developed right here in Central Florida!

We ended up chatting with the DJ and hitting it off so hopefully next time we come back Jeremy @arevolution will be up there spinning a set!

That's it for day one in Asheville, we did stop and get fast food from the only place serving food late at night called Cook Out. Their food took a minute but everything came out freshly fried and tasted fairly quality! Gotta love Asheville!!!!!
