Cryptocurrency Mining in Kazuno, Japan
Cryptocurrency & Japan, two of my favorite subjects! I've been talking to a friend, Yoshikane, in my wife's hometown of Kazuno about joining Steemit and possibly setting up a small mining rig there because electricity is cheaper. To my amazement last night he tells me there is a company setting up a crypto mining farm there! It was fairly big news in Kazuno, so off to Kazuno we go!

Location
Kazuno city 鹿角市 , marked by the pin on the map below, is my wife's hometown in Northern Japan, Akita prefecture. I've written about it before, but this news about a company opening up a mining farm was a reason to revisit it.
It's located about 3hrs north of Tokyo on the shinkansen to Morioaka station and then inland about 1hr by car or bus. The local train takes about 2 hours! By car it takes about 8hrs from Tokyo to Kazuno. There is also a local airport in Odate, which is 1hr outside of Kazuno. A flight from Tokyo to Odate takes about 45min.
Crypto Mining News
As I was saying, Yoshikane and I were chatting yesterday on Line and he sent me an article saying a crypto mining company is opening up a farm in Kazuno. He was asking if I had heard of them before, Miner Garage, and I told him I hadn't, yet. Here is a snippet from the press release:
Today, Miner Garage Co., Ltd., a Japan-based cryptocurrency mining company (Located in 1-10-7 Shibuya, Shibuyaku, Tokyo) has announced its official partnership with Kazuno-City(Akita-prefecture) as Kazuno-City’s invitational enterprise.
Miner Garage believes that, cryptocurrency mining is and will continue to be the foundational element in cryptocurrency trades. And with the city’s help, and utilizing the city’s natural resources of clean energy, Miner Garage will open and operate the first clean energy based Japanese mining center in December 2017.
My friend told me Kazuno will subsidize the electricity for Miner Garage and Miner Garage will rent a building from the city and hire 5 locals to administer it. They also plan to open 2-4 more farms in the near future. This is huge news for Kazuno and very interesting because Kazuno and the surrounding cities were hard rock mining towns for many centuries. The surrounding mountains are rich in copper, gold and silver. So now they are coming full circle, back to mining.
The City
Kazuno, like many small Japanese towns, has been hit hard over the past 2 decades. Shrinking populations, closing businesses and lack of prospects have contributed to a bleak outlook for the city. There are 2 main streets, one of them with an aging arcade like many other Japanese towns. Many of the stores are still open for business along the arcade, but several big box stores have set up shop on the other main street adding additional difficulty to the arcade shops keeping their doors open.
Kazuno is located in a valley and surrounded by mountains. This is one of it's charms. There are many rice farms, apple orchards and two rivers in which you'll often see fishermen. The mountains host many treasures including a ski slope, Lake Towada and hidden shrines. It's a wonderful place to visit for vacation and maybe soon will become a crypto hub for Japan!
There is an recently built industrial park above the city that houses a jean factory for Edwin jeans, a solar panel manufacturer and several other businesses. I am thinking this industrial park may be where the farm will go. We are planning on spending New Year's Eve in Kazuno so I will find out and report back.
Thoughts
Japan is really taking a huge lead in the world of crypto. Legalizing bitcoin and setting up 200,000 retailers with the ability to accept it, GMO developing it's own ASIC miners, and now this news. Exciting things happening in Japan regrading crypto!

Japan seems to be embracing crypto and obviously sees it's potential in contrast to other countries that just view it as a threat. I wonder what is the reason for this, Is it solely the Japanese love of technology?
Historically Japan has always embraced and been on the forefront in technology, they have to be. It's only natural resource is people and brain power. Just like Ireland or the UK.

Cryptoindia, power costs and overhead would be too expensive for someone coming from India. Why not start a far in India where costs are much cheaper??
as i see govt in japan supports crypto minning and even in india elect is not cheap
I won't know until the new year. I will go to Kazuno at the end of December and speak with a city representative. I will report back what I find out. I do know electricity is very expensive in Japan. Kazuno currently produces a lot more than they use so they were able to make this deal with Minergarage.
I would suggest trying to reach out to Minergarage and see if they can give you some guidance.
