History :
Baitul Mukarram, additionally spelled as Baytul Mukarrom (Arabic: بيت المكرّم; Bengali: বায়তুল মোকাররম; The Holy House) is the national mosque of Bangladesh. Situated at the focal point of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, the mosque was finished in 1968. The mosque has a limit of 30,000, giving it the respectable position of being the tenth greatest mosque on the planet. However the mosque is continually getting packed. This particularly happens amid the Islamic sacred month of Ramadan, which has brought about the Bangladeshi government adding augmentations to the mosque, therefore expanding the ability to no less than 40,000.
The mosque complex was planned by engineer, Abdulhusein M. Thariani. In 1959, proprietor of then Bawany Jute Mills, Haji Abdul Latif Bawany proposed to Major General Omrao Khan, at that point military director of East Pakistan, of building a grande mosque in Dhaka. Omrao Khan consented to help on building such mosque. Same year, 'Baitul Mukarram mosque advisory group' had been set up and 8.30 section of land of land between new Dhaka and old Dhaka had been picked. Around then, there was a vast lake in show mosque's area. It was known as 'Paltan lake. The lake was topped off and on 27 January 1960 then leader of Pakistan Ayub Khan started the work. Petition God for first time occurred on Friday, 25 January 1963.
The arrangement included shops, workplaces, libraries and stopping zones inside the complex. In spite of the fact that there has been a custom of arch mosque for Muslim, this building did not keep up the control of customary mosque in that time. A Mosque without a vault over the top of its principle petition lobby more likely than not been a special test. The mosque was assembled when the nation was the Part of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
in 2008 the mosque was expanded, financed by a gift from the Saudi government.
