USA roadtrip: Horseshoe Bend + Lake Powell [EN+GER]

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

The meanwhile well-known Horseshoe Bend is very close to the town Page, which is a good starting point for exploring the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

The associated parking space is located directly on Highway 89, from where you can reach the viewpoint after a walk of about a kilometer. Usually the parking lot is visible from the distance, thanks to many cars and RVs. Like the parking lot, the way to the canyon is unpaved and sandy.

Because the horseshoe-shaped course of the Colorado River has gained a lot of publicity in recent years and because of the easily accessible viewpoint, every day there are many tourists at the canyon.

Therefore it is more than astonishing that no entrance fee is required for this natural spectacle. From the edge of the cliffs, which are not secured with railings, you can look down 300 m to the river.

There is not really a recommended time of day or an absolute no-go time to photograph at the Horseshoe Bend, it always looks stunning ;) In the late morning, the canyon is almost completely illuminated by the sun and the colors are very nice.Lake_6.jpg
As a lens you should take at least a focal length of 18 mm. At higher values you can’t capture the entire loop on one photo and you have to take a panorama.

As a next stop, we recommend a beach holiday at Lake Powell, only a few miles away.

Lake_1.jpg
The reservoir was built in the 1960s and has become a popular holiday and vacation destination.

Lake_8.jpg
We used the campsite Lone Rock Campground for starting day trips and of course to enjoy the lake. For only $ 10 - $ 15 you can park your car or camper right beside the lake.
There are no fixed spaces so everyone can choose his favorite place himself.

Introduction.jpgWarm water, cold beer - what more could you want?

Lake_2.jpgOf course Pabst Blue Ribbon

The next day our first trip starts to the relatively unknown North Rim of the Grand Canyon. An adventure worth all the efforts!

Introduction.jpgWarmes Wasser, kühles Bier – was will man mehr?

Lake_2.jpgPabst Blue Ribbon, was sonst?

Unseren letzten Stop verpasst?

Looks like you had fun, I have always wanted to rent a winnebago and road trip around here. The Pabst is a nice touch too...

Of course we had ;) So you havn't been in this area? Keep catching this dream ;)

I have been to Vegas a couple of times, but have been stuck in the city each time for events, so the next time I go to the U.S. I will definitely be doing a trip similar to yours for sure.

Looks familiar ;)
Nice post by the way :)

Haha, knew you would recognize it ;) Have you also been at Lake Powell?

Jap, been there too. It is also nice, but our tempo was really hard so we did not have time to just enjoy in the beer there ;)
