Walking around Ushuaia with Mr. Penguin and Mr. Beaver
Tired and excited we arrive at the hostel Yakush, just in the city's centre and with a welcoming vibe. It's the first time ever in an hostel, so sharing the room with other guests will be a new experience, but they seem quiet and reserved, it looks like we are the noisy people!!
We go for a walk around the city. The atmosphere is the placid like in a small port village at the foot of a northern fjord, with the classic South American urban setting in squares, where almost all the streets seems the same. The main street is Avenida S. Martin, it's full of shops, restaurants and some small houses that seem to be made with Lego block pieces.
We run into a curious duo of local inhabitants: Mr. Penguin and Mr. Beaver who advertise a tourism agency. Chatting nicely, they tell us where to go and what to do. Here live about 56,000 inhabitants, in short a little more than Venice.
We descend towards the port to see with our eyes the famous sign of the end of the world. A special light, a clear and fresch air, now we perceive that we have turned page, the beginning of the change. We are in the queue for a few minutes to take the classic tourist photo, we must give a proof of our arrival to our followers. We go back to the centre to celebrate the big day: a dinner with a good salmon at the restaurant "El Turco" sounds the best choice.
