Tuning in to A Better Frequency: Mountain Musings
We start nearly every road trip with clean toes and come back with dirty ones. We start with cluttered minds and bound hearts and come back with fresh air in our lungs and our eyes reflecting starry skies and mountain ranges.
We play Eddie Current Suppression Ring , loud, that garagey Melbourne sound that has punk's simplicity:
Guitars begin to bleed into the sounds of surf lapping against the shore. "Slow down before you fall down," he murmurs. And for the last 20 minutes of the record, you can hear nothing but water and sea birds in conversation with one another, all of it as mesmerizing as every riff and rant that came before.

We have to slow down, before we fall down, every single one of us. We need to discard the well stitched taylor made suits that have us walk this way or that. The ones that tell us about the lives we should be living and the deadlines we should be listening to. Breath in, breath out. Anything outside of those breaths is a lie. Give me the simplicity of this, and the courage to hold true to this, for all my days.
We swim in cold mountain steams to wash off ennui, grief, anxiety and indifference. We breath with the ducks and the trout and the wedgetailed eagles and think about how simple it is to love. He rises first and makes me coffee in the white misted air as the snow moon drifts low. He lights the fire and skips stones across silken water. I hold this simplicity, integrity, pure air inside my lungs and breath out a cloud boat carrying a cargo of dreams of this simple life and it drifts around us on a sea of simple prayers.

We choose to tune out. We choose where our attention goes. We tune out the noise of propaganda and lies. Trees don't lie. Birds don't lie. The fish, the stream, the mountains don't lie.

We need to turn down the volume
on all this noise and tune in to a different frequency. We need to tune into nature and thus see ourselves as part of the pulsing breath of the earth rather than a separate, lonely entity. Tune in to moonlight on rivers, to the sunrise over cold mountains, to the thundering waves on sandy shores where the footprints of gannets let the way to the cool water. Tune in to be fucking nice to each other. Tune in to smiles, waving at the people that pass you on a dirt track, to offerings of knowledge, stories, cups of tea. Tune in to the sussurations of wing flaps as birds (kookaburras, currawongs, magpies) nestle in sunset lit gums. Tune in to night tired pee interludes in the darkness and notice the passage of constellations across the clockface sky. Tune into thump thumps of curious wallabies. Tune in. Tune in. Tune in.
