Back to Smith Reservoir

Our camping time was up at Lake Como Road so we moved back to Smith Reservoir which was only a short 20 minute drive. National forest land has a 14 day time limit and you must move one county over, and not come back for 30 days. Luckily these two counties and camping areas are very close.

We moved to a more secluded area of the lake this time where we won't have fishermen and other campers near us. Last time someone set camp close to us and ran a generator non-stop.

After moving camp and setting up yesterday we did some grocery shopping in Alamosa and got a propane refill. Snow and cold weather was in the forecast and we didn't want to run out.

We expected to wake up to snow, but only got a light dusting which quickly melted when the sun came out. The mountain got much more but it may not last with more sun.

A ranger knocked on our camper this morning and caught us by surprise. I was surprised at how friendly this one was compared to some of our last encounters. He noticed our military veteran vehicle tags and thanks us for our service, told us about the 14 day camping limit, shook my hand and off he went.

I really wanted to go for a walk today after the snow but the cold wind persisted. Our friend Paul from lake como Road showed us some interesting mineral samples to be on the lookout for here near the lake including meteorites. Another one looks like melted plastic but it's actually naturally occurring.

A few cows have moved through camp so far, but haven't stuck around to bother us. Hopefully the old cowdog we saw last time will come by to visit us.

Tonight we're making steak burgers with mashed potatoes again! Not making gravy although it was really good last time. Don't ask @scarletreaper though because she hates admitting my gravy is awesome 😂

Sounds like a great trip! I’m glad you didn’t get in trouble. That’s funny that @scarletreaper doesn’t want to admit you make good gravy!

I am from the south ain't no man from Oklahoma gonna make better gravy than me lol

Ha ha ha! Own it, @scarletreaper!

Well I do admit you are a fabulous cook chef 🤗

Why did they make such 14 days limit?

That's a good question, but I'm guessing it's so that people won't just stay indefinitely at one location.
