Travelling around the World – High Mont Popa (Episode 4)
Dear Steemians,
In this Episode 4 of Travelling around the World I would like to share pictures, comments and curiosities about a Buddhist monastery that was built on top of Mont Popa, an extinct volcano.
En este Episodio 4 de Viajando por el Mundo me gustaría compartir fotos, comentarios y curiosidades sobre un monasterio budista que fue construido en la cima del Monte Popa, un volcán extinto.
The volcano is more or less one hour and a half far from Bagan (by car). To crown the top there is no other way than to climb barefoot the 777 steps carved. You cannot enter with slippers or socks, as in any other sacred place. Although it is a bit exhausting, it is worth it. You have really beautiful views from the temple.
El volcán está más o menos a una hora y media de Bagan en coche. Para coronar la cima no hay otra que subir descalzo los 777 peldaños tallados. No puedes entrar con zapatillas ni calcetines, como en cualquier otro lugar sagrado. Aunque es un poco agotador, vale la pena. Desde arriba tienes realmente unas vistas hermosas.
It’s also called Burma's Mount Olympus, the abode of Burma's most powerful Nats (name given to spirits) because it is the most important Nat worship center.
También se llama Monte Olimpo de Birmania, la morada de los Nats más poderosos de Birmania (nombre dado a los espíritus) porque es el centro de adoración Nat más importante.
The biggest danger: the bastard monkeys who live by stealing food from the pilgrims. Never bring food which is visible to the eye in your backpacks, as the monkeys will try to steal it. They are like a plague and it causes the monastery to become so dirty with their pee and poops.
El mayor peligro: los monos bastardos que viven robando comida de los peregrinos. Nunca llevéis comida a la vista en las mochilas, tratarán de robarla. Son como una plaga y hacen que el templo esté muy sucio con sus pises y cacas.
And don't give them anything to eat. They are used to receiving food because some tourists give it to them, and I don’t think it is a good idea. The whole temple is very dirty because of this, really disgusting and frustrating.
Y no les deis nada para comer, están acostumbrados a eso porque algunos turistas les dan comida, y no creo que sea una buena idea. El templo al completo está muy sucio debido a esto, muy repugnante y frustrante.
This one finally opened the bottle that he found and drank the water inside. So smart!
Este finalmente abrió la botella que encontró y bebió el agua de dentro. ¡Que inteligente!
People make offerings to bud leaving bananas and they usually eat them. Popa means flower, because of that you will probably see some flower offerings too.
La gente hace ofrendas a los monos, dejando plátanos para ellos. Popa significa flor, debido a que probablemente veréis algunas ofrendas de flores también.
Moreover, there was a donation wall in the temple. You can see below the name of the people who donate money for the maintenance and care of the temple, please, let me know if there is any of them that is a bit surprising or familiar to you. I still do not believe in it.
Además, había un muro de donación en el templo. Podéis ver a continuación el nombre de las personas que donan dinero para el mantenimiento y cuidado del templo, por favor, decidme si hay alguno de ellos que sea un poco sorprendente o os resulte familiar. Todavía no me lo creo.

Thanks a lot for your comment @explosivo. If you haven't been to Burma I strongly recommend travelling there. It is a country quite different from what I have seen before, with marvellous places to walk around and gorgeous temples and nature.
