Travelling around the World – Relaxing Inle Lake (Episode 3)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

To be honest, we wanted to skip the Inle lake from our trip. Being there was a friend of us fault, and thanks god that she recommended us to go there! It was with any doubt one of our preferred places of Burma.

It is not just a lake, it's a culture, a paradise, a beauty's nature mirror from the views of your boat. It is the second largest lake and one of the highest (884 m above sea level) in the country, with an estimated area of 12,000 hectares and 500 km2 (100 km long by only 5 km wide).

Our base from which to explore the lake was the Aureum hotel and it was absolutely incredible. We spent 2 days there but we should have spent more.

In the lake you could see how the fishermen were working, some of them with an amazing balance on the boat. They are from the Intha ethnic group and the way they fish is so curious. They usually stand with one leg, holding the fishing net in one hand, a stick in the other and they are rowing with one of their legs.

The lake is big enough to have different markets, hanging houses, even pagodas in its surrounding area.

El lago es lo suficientemente grande como para tener diferentes mercados, casas colgantes, incluso pagodas en sus alrededores.

There is a pagoda located on one of the shores of the lake, Phaung Daw U. It is one of the three main pagodas of Burma, built in the 18th century and containing 12th century Buddha images.

Burma looks absolutely gorgeous. I love the fact you went with the photo you did for your main thumbnail. It's like a slice of pure paradise. What a beautiful place. And you chronicling your travels is the icing on an already perfect cake.

Loving you post. Thanks for sharing your cool adventures with us. :)

Thanks a lot for your comment. It's true, Burma is absolutely delightful. I wasn't used to the nature we found there.

Great post and very informative. @postsfriend Have learnt a lot from it.

what an awesome journey.

I have been to Inle lake in April 2016 and we were quite surprised. There were almost no tourists there in off-season, and people were actually quite friendly and open hearted. We were shown around a rice field by a proud farmer i asked about the production cycle when i saw him working on a field, hitchhiking was no problem and even the captains were not too annoying when advertising for customers.
I am pretty sure you had to pay the fake fishermen to snap those pictures, we have been told they are waiting just outside the canal, but luckily business is not worth it in low season.
(The real fishermen around inle are fishing with nets/poles and don't were nice, splendid clothes when going to work :) )

It is true that real fishermen do not wear those clothes. This guy was too well dressed!
We did not know that he was not a real fisherman, we realized later, when he asked for money...Typical error from the novice tourist. : O
Thanks for sharing your comment @icountedzero

Yeah shit happens, we fell for a lot of tourist traps on our six months journey, MyanMar was our last stop, so we were careful already...:) I forgot to say thank you for sharing your story, brought back the memories of my trip!
