Alentejo - Visit Portugal (Version English)
In the Alentejo as plains as something to lose by the Tejo. This region is the largest in Portugal combined with the sun, heat and a very calm pace. If you want to take a real vacation to relax in Portugal, there is no better place than the Alentejo .
The breadth of the landscape is made up of its cork oaks or olive trees that stand up to the weather. Here besides the typical plains, separated by mountainous zones also finds a beautiful coast with rough beaches, cities and picturesque villages that seem that stopped in the time.
The Alentejo region with its agriculture contributes with the necessary conditions for the production of one of its excellent assets that is the Wine Alentejano .
The Alentejo gastronomy is also highly appreciated, counting as a basic ingredient the bread "barn of Portugal", joining the olive oil of quality that come from its fields of olive and garlic, which give us the magnificent typical dishes, such as Ensopado de Borrego, Migas and Açorda .

Évora
Evora owes its original name Ebora to the Celts and is one of the most beautiful historical cities in the world.
Elvas
City at the gates of Spain, is 8km from the city of badajoz. Elvas was the most important stronghold of the Portuguese frontier, the most fortified city in Europe.
Monsaraz
The village of Monsaraz is surrounded by medieval walls.
Arraiolos
Arraiolos has many places of interest, in what stands out is without a doubt the Castle of Arraiolos.
Marvão
Also near the border of Spain, at the highest point of the beautiful Serra de São Mamede, you will find the charming village of Marvão.
Porto Covo
Source of inspiration for poets and singers.
Mértola
It has traces that go back to the Neolithic, archaeological sites that allow us to return to the past.

Temos um País lindo, estas fotos estão demais! Cada vez tenho mais pena de ter que viver numa cidade, apesar de termos sítios lindos e alguma natureza por perto, não se compara! Obrigado pela partilha, até quem cá vive tem muito para aprender e conhecer.
Concordo contigo, temos um país lindo! Por vezes dá vontade de ir viver para um lugar mais pacato no nosso país. Mas também temos a sorte de fazermos poucos km´s e termos lugares incríveis.

Como eu adoro o nosso alentejo.. Só de ver isto até me parte o coração de nostalgia, e ao mesmo tempo me dou conta da sorte que temos pelo nosso país ser tão compacto... Num saltinho podemos visitar todos estes paraísos..
É verdade em poucos km´s vemos paisagens completamente diferentes. O ano passado passei as minhas férias no Alentejo e fiquei encantado.

Bon dia! Right now my wife and I should be in Santa Eulalia, about 30 minutes walk east of Old Town Albufeira, but health issues have kept us home in Canada with snow (and today, due to an uncharacteristic warm spell, rain!). Since 2012 we have wintered 4 times in the Algarve, about 10 weeks each time, so almost qualify as winter residents rather than tourists. I did about 14 posts a while back describing how to visit Portugal, for example how to get around, places to visit, culture, but you have to dig back in my blog to find them. We had never heard of Alentejo before our first visit but became intrigued by all the wine and food we saw in the Algarve that originated there, so during our third winter stay we did a 10 day roadtrip north through Evora to the Spanish border and the Douro, then Porto and Coimbra. You have a wonderful country, so many nice areas like Alentejo, hope we can get back there next winter!
