My trip around Balkans 2nd stop Greece last part A day trip from Thessaloniki to municipality of Aristoteles Halkidiki penisula

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hi Dear Steemit community

I do not like to visit only cities. That is why I found a bus which lead to me to Ouranopolis in one of the three penisula on the south-east of Thessaloniki. Mostly I travel alone I do not want pay alone a car renting. By the way I have seen many photos of Greek beaches. Watch with my own eyes obviously is something completely different.

Ouranopolis is a small town, not crowded. Fantastic to spent some hours on the beach. In particular if you find a great weather, limpid water. It was so relaxing to be almost alone in this beach close to a tower which was not open to visitors. It is told that it is dated on 14th century and its style is Byzantine.

Many pilgrims come here to visit Mount Athos (which in Greek means Holy Mount). Some bars, accomodation, shops, restaurant are situated here. But actually I did not see many tourists here in August however this area has show something definitely attractive to visitors.

I had a quick lunch here and I caught the bus back to Thessaloniki afterward in the early afternoon.

On the way I stopped to a Greek small and ancient small town. In Stagira was born Aristotle. In the past I read a couple of books: Politic, and Nicomachean Ethic I found very useful contents. However we perfectly know his contribute was absolutely larger than these two books.

A park is dedicated to him and some of its works, A lens which shows energy through electromagnetic radiation. That frame box to not allow people to be closer risking burn danger by the light rays.

Nowadays Aristotelian philosophy is considered still recent and also influence contemporanean science theory. If you we think that Aristotles lived in the IV century B.C and simply “contextualize” his contribute we can realize how eloquent he has been.
Also most of all European languages including English are partially influenced by Ancient Greek. A wide range of words had previously origin from Hellenism. Let me provide you some example the word Philosophy from Philos-sophos love of wisdom (people may debate about the exactly translation into English). The list is much wide. Even my name as I was saying one of my previos posts here. Also I have an Ancient Greek name Philos (friend) - Hippos (horse).

(My name in Greek letters)

Just another example of what I mean for influence: Daniel Goleman a recent and a famous author in one of his books "Emotional Intelligence" mentioned part of book IV chapter 5 of Nicomachean Ethic: “ The man who gets angry at the right things and with the right people, and also in the right way and at the right time and for the right lenght of time is commended”.

Anyway...I would spent more hours around this penisula but there are not many buses during the day travelling to Thessaloniki. Once I came back to my accomodation and then going out for dinner.

I have to say that this first time in Greece has been absolutely stunning . For sure the idea is to coming back....

Great combination of awesome coastal scenery and amazing science/philosophy work conducted by the incredible Aristotle himself. Thanks for sharing your trip with us - unreal what the Ancient Greeks did all those years ago :)
