Wukang Mansion - Normandie Apartments - Shanghai, China
Today I want to share my trip to the protected historic building apartment building in Shanghai with you.
The Wukang Building was designed by Hungarian-Slovak architect and is located in the former French Concession area of Shanghai.
It was completed in 1924 and is 30 metres high on a land area of almost 1.600 square metres and features originally 63 apartments and 30 servants' quarters.
The Normandie Apartments building was bought by the daughter of a wealthy banker named H. H. Kung in 1942 but was originally built for employees in the concessions area.
The building became really popular with celebrities of Shanghai, including famous actors and actresses.
Nowadays the building is under municipal protection and was restored in 2008 by the districts government.
You can find the building at the southern end of Wukang Road which was formerly called Route Ferguson.
As a little bonus, here is a man that I spotted drawing the building, when I was visiting.
