Finding and settling

His name was known as 'Char Osman' for quite a long time.In 1959-60, due to the sincere assistance of Osman Baitina in the survey of Land Department of Bangladesh, the land officer named him 'Char Osman'. Since then the island was known to this name. The northern part of the island is named Char Kanga, north-eastern part of Bandaritala. Since the 70's, there has been a lot of settlement in this region. In 1979, the island was changed to the name of the island and it was administratively maintained in the Nijhum Island.

Biodiversity

Since 1972, the forest department of Bangladesh started working to build coastal forests here. A 20-year project is taken over. About 21 million trees are planted. The forests of this region include the Keora, Gewa, Crab, Bain etc. There are also 21 species of trees and 43 species of plants in this island.
