More Nevada Desert Pano-Mania

in #travel5 years ago

This is a follow up to my last post covering panoramas in the Nevada desert. These were taken mostly at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area just west of Las Vegas. A link to more info here.

We made this trip in December to escape the snow and ice of the northwest Cascades. We decided to stay at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa on the far west side of Las Vegas about 20 minutes from downtown. More resort info here.

This is a shot from our hotel room. The Red Rock area is toward the left of the image.

So this is not really a panorama but it is a good story. Since we left the snow, ice and subfreezing temperatures of the Northwest Cascades, we weren't about to let the balmy 60 degree F weather in Vegas go to waste. We, and just about no one else, spent 2 or 3 days sunning ourselves by the pool and swimming. The native Las Veganites working at the hotel thought we were crazy for being out in the "cold weather". I guess feeling cold is a state of mind. :)

The start of a little hike up to Calico Tanks. Looking back at the trail head.

The way forward up the canyon to the tanks. Tanks is the name for a pooled water source in the desert.

The next three shots are vistas from the 12 mile loop drive through the conservation area.
