Punta del Este — Uruguay

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

In this occasion I show some photos of Punta del Este, the second largest city of Uruguay. It is one of the most important spa cities or resorts in South America and in the Southern Atlantic. Some people say that it is the “Miami of South America” other people compare it with Monaco. Certainly it can be compared with Miami due to the construction boom that this city has experienced during the lasts decades and it is impressive to see the amount of building and condominiums that have been built along the sea side. We can say that it is a city with a lot of glamour.

In this first photos it can bee seen part of the skyline of the city and in the foreground the sea. I consider the black and white format suits quite well to the image.

The city is located where the Rio de la Plata ends and meets the Atlantic ocean. Some people say that La Punta (“The tip”) of the peninsula where the city is located, is where this division of waters occurs. Certainly we can experience that the water on the ocean side is clearer than the one from the river side.

The famous sculpture La Mano (The Hand) it is located at Playa Brava (the first beach on the ocean side). This sculpture is the work of the Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal. "La Mano" has become an icon of the city. I show part of the sculpture in this photo (the fifth finger is missing). You can have an idea of its size since there is a silhouette of a man in the image.

The sand dunes are a common feature on the beaches on the ocean side, this photo shows one of the access to the beach along the dunes.

This other photo shows a detail of the sand dune in the foreground and part of the skyline of Punta del Este at the background.

I took these photos in autumn (May) when it is low season for this city, so the beaches were almost deserted. From someone who are used to the Caribbean finds water temperature of these beaches quite cold.

I used a camera Sony DSC-R1 for taking these photographs.

Superb @nenio, I like Punta del Este a lot, during the summer especially. However I never stay there because of the prices hahaha.

From Piriapolis do Punta del Este I cycled against winds that really destoyed em, then from Punta del Este to Laguna Garzon again.

I absolutely love Uruguay.

The landscape from Piriapolis to Punta del Este, is very nice. I will publish some of my photos from this trip. I did it by car, though.
Uruguay is very nice.

It is amazing, indeed! But it's one hell of a ride on a bicycle, when it goes up insanely near the entrance to Casa Pueblo, then it goes down again beautifuly.

Really awesome photos @nenio :D
Thanks for sharing with us!!!

Thank you for your nice comment.

very nice post, those fingers change colour all the time, because some fools will paint them with graffiti and then the city council has to repaint them again. Once they painted bright blue by some people playing a prank!

I did know that. It is a pity that this piece of art suffers from these vandalic acts.

Thank you for the information.

We have to to there one day, just to see those sandy fingertips.

Uruguay is a nice country and Punta del Este is quite different from Montevideo. Thank you for commenting.
