RE: My first day in Singapore - lots of interesting architecture

in #travel6 years ago

IS there a reason you are trying to get coronavirus? lol....
I must confess to having a rather love/hate relationship with Singapore over the years. I have never seen that first street you visited though, that's lovely. I seriously fell out with them though when they closed the railway station about 10 years ago and moved it to start close to the border. It was supposed to become a museum and I thought it was just an excuse to get the land but it was made a world heritage site in 2012 I think! Its beautiful and well worth a visit even just to see from outside. You can't help but think of the East Orient Express! I did the journey from there up to Chiang Mai via KL and Bangkok in about 2008....wonderful!
Have a great time and keep the pictures coming. I have a visa run to do soon so I may just pop back for the first time in 4 years based on your new discoveries!!

I have to say my impression of Singapore has changed a bit this time round. Maybe coz I'm on holiday rather than business as all previous visits were when I was working in HK.

Hope come you gotta do a visa run? I thought you're married to a local?

I am but have a multi-entry 1-year non-immigrant visa based on marriage which actually gives me 15 months in total ...but it means I have to leave every 3 months, even if it's just a walkout and in again.
The alternative is an extension to this which means I'd only have to report in every 3 months but there are strict financial requirements but even worse are the piles of paperwork and hone visits required. Not a problem, It fores me off my backside and promots me to have a little wander for a couple of days!
