My first day in Singapore - lots of interesting architecture

It's been many years since I've been to Singapore. My impression of it has certainly changed during this trip. For a start, I noticed a lot more interesting buildings around town. I don't know if previously I just never noticed them, or whether these are due to preservation efforts in recent years. .

Koon Seng Road 8/10

These blocks of colourful houses are in peranakan style, a fusion of Malay and Chinese dating back to many centuries ago. They are currently occupied as normal residents, but there is often a flow of tourists taking photos outside. I'm not surprised as they are so pretty, and are so Instagrmmable.

150D E Coast Rd 8/10

Here's another group of pretty colourful houses that are also very Instagrmmable. They are located down a little lane, and are famous for their unique preserved facade. Again, they are normal residents, I'd love to live in one!!

Haji Lane 7/10

Haji Lane is a recommendation from a friend. She said this is a quirky lane with lots of interesting shops, cafes and bars. I arrived early afternoon when it was very hot. I think I must have been a bit tired from travelling, so just wasn't in the mood to walk around. Having saud that, the lane did look very interesting and I can imagine it having a great vibe in the evenings.

Chinatown 7/10

With 70% of Singapore's population being Chinese, Chinatown is quite an important area in Singapore. I found that like many other Chinatowns around the world, the area is a little bit too touristy for my liking. The other thing about Chinatown, is that it seems to lag behind the rest of society by one or two decades. Depending in how you look at it, this may or may not be a bad thing. Personally I think if it can preserve heritable and culture, it's a good thing.
