River Olteț
The Olteţ River is a tributary of the Olt River in Romania.
He has a length of 185 km and a average flow, 10 m³/s.
It's basin is narrow, little developed in the area of the Căpăţâni mountains, where it has bloodline, at the altitude of 1600 m.

Olteţ river traverses the mountain sector in a straight line, with large slopes 50m/km and without tributaries.
Upstream of Polovragi, in his path he cut the limestone massif of Jurassic age, in which the cave was formed with the same name.

Cerna, is the largest tributary of the Olteţ River, and springs in the high Căpăţânii peaks. River Cerna flows into the Oltet River at Balcesti, Valcea.

The Oltet valley, narrow in the hilly area, it widens downstream of Balş and reaches 3-4 km.
It crosses Gorj, Valcea and Olt counties.

Of the 185 kilometers, 3 kilometers form the keys Oltetului, keys separating the Capatanii Mountains from the Parang Mountains, on some portions distance between these mountains being only 2-3 meters.

After scramblinging on the Forest Road in the Oltetului Gorge, after about 300 meters, you greet the first tourist attraction found on these keys, namely the cave Polovragi or Cave of Zamolxe

In the gorge Oltetului, the water of the Oltet River has a consanta temperature of 9-10 degrees throughout the year.

In summer these keys are an ideal place to get rid of the sun heat, because they it penetrates hardly through the abundant vegetation and among mountains that form a roof, and the temperature decreases by about 10 degrees from the one at the entrance to the pier.

The slopes of the mountains are seen as hollow holes in the mountain rock of different shapes and sizes. Some of these "holes" are connected to the Polovragi cave.
