Waterfall Attempt, Waterfall Fail, & A Big Horn Sheep

We haven't been on too many adventures lately as we have been dealing with repairs, gone out the lake and not taken photos, and now have been preparing for our wedding this weekend (woohoo!) so we headed out for some waterfall action. There are a few waterfalls in the area but the two best ones are closed from a forest fire last year so we settled for two other, Christie and Fintry Falls.

We decided to hit Christie Falls first because Google Maps said it was the furthest but we ran into trouble after going up above the lake in the mountainous area and just passed the Fintry Falls area. When we got close to the falls according to the map and turned off on a gravel road, we drove past a series of homes and at the end was the road we were to take to the falls but as you are about to enter the gate there is a giant sign that says "No Entry, No Christie Falls, Google Maps Is Wrong". So of course we turned around in defeat as the neighbors watched and we both searched on our phones or attempted to with very low signal. After reading about where the place actually was (and still not being sure as all the maps were wrong) and analyzing our gas situation, we decided to just go back to Fintry Falls.

We then had another map problem, the map ended and as we passed the spot, there was a tiny sign that said Fintry Park Line or something like that with just a little gravel section off the road, enough for only a few cars. We looked around and saw a trail and decided to go, as we crossed the sign we saw another sign on the ground that said the trail was closed due to flooding risk but of course we went anyways. The trail was short but full of glass and litter at first and then fallen trees in the path. And as we got closer we realized we somehow were on the wrong side of the rive and so high, there was no way to cross. This meant no good view of the bigger part of the falls and just the view below of the one part of the small falls and the old, fallen suspension bridge.

The view was not what we had hoped for but we didn't want to hunt down how to get to the other side so we decided to leave and go eat. And then everything got much better as we passed by a big horn sheep on the road! We turned around and got a up close and personal view and some video and photos of the guy. He was weird looking, like not of the world or an ancient creature from another time, it was awesome! Then he got annoyed with us and started to walk away so we drove off, leaving him to graze in peace. This encounter well made up for the waterfall fails, you just never know what you might see and when, it's amazing here in ol' Canada.
