Cities Besides Rio de Janeiro #2: Porto de Galinhas
Continuing the series of posts with cities that you should visit beyond Rio de Janeiro.
An hour ow two south of Recife, capital of Pernambuco, Porto de Galinhas was created for the not so radical tourist and quite radical. One traveler said enthusiastically:
It's what it does not have that makes it great: no complicated traffic, no night life.
Explore the natural pools that form on the reef, feed the fish that swim around you, go by buggy to the romantic Muro Alto beack. Or forget all t hat and sleep in a hammock by listening and watching the warm, green, transparent Atlantic close up.
Muro Alto Beach
It was this beautiful beach the place chosen to house the most luxurious condiminiums and some of the best resorts in Brazil. With a sea of extremely calm waters due to the great formation of reefs in the place, a true natural swimming pool, being surrounded by thousands of coconut trees, mangroves, reserve areas of Atlantic Forest, as well as a tropical garden by the sea. Muro Alto beach is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in Brazil.
Vila de Porto de Galinhas Beach
Vila de Porto de Galinhas beach is the main beach of the district, the one that should not be left out of your script. The beach is crowded, especially in summer and on weekends, and the space of its sand is quite crowded. Has only few waves because it is protected by reefs and clear waters.
This is a beach with easy acess and a good structure. On the waterfront there are several restaurants and hawkers offering their products, which do not always have very friendly prices.
Whenever the tide is low, the natural pools are formed 200m from the shore and people depart on the rafts to meet them and see colorful fish. If you do not want to do the raft, you can go swimming, if you swim well, or even walk (by the right side of the beach), if the tide is on its lowest day (0.0). It is necessary to take a little care if you decide to know the pools on your own, that is, without a guide, because he knows the area better and some points of the reef are forbidden. Do not go without flip-flops to avoid injuring your feet.
Maracaípe Beach
Maracaípe beach is know as the surfer's paradise because it has already entered the national and international surfing calendar due to its clear waters and strong waves. It is therefore dangerous for bathing. Its climate is young and relaxed. Maracaípe conquers the visitors for its natural beauty and extensive network of coconut palms.
Cupe Beach
Located in the northern portion of the village of Porto de Galinhas, around the Pontal do Cupe, Cupe beach is one of the largest in the region, with a total lenght of approximately 4.5 km.
Despite being a place with strong wave, quite conducive to surfing, Cupe beach is a very quiet place and, due to the presence of reefs, there is the formation of natural pools in some stretches of the beach. This set of characteristics make Cupe beach a great leisure option for the whole family.
Beijupira Restaurant
Charming and trendy, it has neat decoration, tables on the porch and candle lighting. In the menu, the highlights are the dish that combine fish with fruit, like the Beijumanga: in it, the fish that its name to the house is served grilled in sesame crust with honey banana, coconut rice and mango sauce.
Hope you liked and realized that Brazil is much more than just Rio de Janeiro.
