My first visit to the Italian Tuscany continue! My story #mygreatphotos

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Dear Steemit friends:

Until now, I shared with you information about my passion, Yoga,
and practices, philosophy, and literature with the intention of collaborating
to connect here and now in the moment, with our most intimate
BEING.

But I am not only an Instructor and Health Assistant, I also love to
travel. I have already shared some photos which are amazing places for me, like
Istanbul! In addition to specific videos that we recorded in our
trips because they amazed us at that time, we saw constructions, customs and
other herbs as we say in my country .... (which means "and a bit of everything" in
case you do not understand).

Today I want to share with you how continue this special travel experience for me! If you did not read my first post this was my first time in Italy, the land of Pascual, my grandfather, before he had to migrate to the Americas. Later on, Argentina was his destiny and many years later I was born there.

This trip was the second trip I did with Richard, for you @qrwizard, my boyfriend. We started our trip in Rome, that´s because Richard lives in Spain and me, as I mentioned before, in Argentina. We are a couple not of the standard as You will see, and it has worked for us, we have been together for three years!

On this trip, we visited the Italian Tuscany.
Here we are, just introducing us by a photo, behind Il Duomo di Siena.

In this post I am going to tell you about our experience in Siena, in the Italian Tuscany.

Here some info about this area of Italy.
Tuscany is a region in central Italy with an area of about 23,000 square kilometres (8,900 square miles) and a population of about 3.8 million inhabitants (2013). The regional capital is Florence (Firenze). Tuscany is known for its landscapes, traditions, history, artistic legacy, and its influence on high culture.

Our trip was done by car from Rome to Montepulciano, we stayed there and we visited Siena in one day visit.
The landscape you can see from the route is super recommendable!

Siena is a beautiful city located in the heart of the Tuscany Region, at an approximate distance of 60 kilometers south of Florence, it is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, rich in history, art, and architectural beauty, with its medieval alleys, its palaces and churches, all wrapped in a unique rural landscape: the Tuscan hills, with vineyards and cypresses everywhere.

You can see this little town on a hill from the bottom in the photo below, you must walk a lot, climbing the hill up and down.

On the way we go through alleys, cafes and restaurants, we found this interesting restaurant with a funny chef inviting you to enter offering the menu...

We visited Piazza del Campo, is the square that best characterizes Siena in the world, considered the "most beautiful square in the world" by Montaigne, plus it is the very heart of the whole city. Its floor is made of small red bricks that form a huge concave shell as if it were a real seashell divided into 9 parts that symbolize the 9 "contradas" or zones of the city. It is the place where every year they make the famous Palio of Siena, one of the most important historical events in Italy.

We visited The Cathedral of Siena, known as Il Duomo di Siena, without a doubt, is one of the most impressive churches you will find in Italy. It is a huge Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral built by Giovanni Pisano between 1284 and 1296 and where many architects and artists have worked afterward, transforming it into the precious jewel that it is today.

The Cathedral has an important crypt that was discovered a very short time ago: in 1999 during some restructuring work of the Cathedral of Siena. It is a living room of 180 square meters with frescoes of 1200 totally intact, as the room was closed in the year 1300. That is why nowadays you can admire all these aromas with the same splendor of when they were made.

The Wolf of Siena:

The legend is beautiful in its linearity: Romulus killed his brother
Remo, and the sons of the latter, Senio, and Ascanio (or Aschio) - for
fear of being killed by his uncle - fled with two horses, one white
and one black, donated by Apollo and Diana. Their escape was concluded
here, on the hill of Castelvecchio, where they founded a city that
took the Latin name of Sena (by Senio, of course), chose as emblem the
black and white Strip (like the horses that had taken them to a place
sure) and the she-wolf as a symbol of eternal memory of the city of
Rome. This is why the wolf, as a symbol of its Roman origin, is very
present in Siena.

Siena is a city that can be visited in one day because it is easy to travel, much of it is 100% pedestrian, so walking among its streets and lost among its many boutiques, wineries, and restaurants makes Siena a magical place.
