Just a few people have heard of this small region in Italy. But it is a paradise on earth.

It is located in the province of Genoa, and it is a hub for all celebrities and vip people. You will see yachts, exclusive restaurants and hotels etc.. Many celebs have purchased properties there already and it is gaining popularity year after year. And you will understand why!Portofino-34.jpg

Portofino is a small village that extends like a moonlit arch around this calm basin. "Guy de Maupassant described Portofino, a small seaside village on the Ligurian Riviera, surrounded by the green of the Regional Nature Park and the Marine Reserve.
This beautiful seaside resort, immersed in an ancient atmosphere, made up of maritime traditions has been and is still loved by artists, celebrities and writers who have decimated their praises.
The "piazzetta", the meeting point of the international jet set, is the symbol of Portofino, while the marina with its colorful living features is witness to the great maritime tradition of this hamlet, whose inhabitants were called by Greeks and Romans " Dolphins ", for the ability to navigate.

The charm of these places, the good cuisine of Liguria and the many cultural and natural itineraries make this corner of the Gulf of Tigullio an ideal destination at all times of the year, although most tourists appreciate it especially during the summer months, When the luxuriant nature and the warm waters of the sea make Portofino a corner of paradise.

Many places of natural and cultural interest, beginning with the church of the patron saint of Portofino, San Giorgio, construction of the 12th century, inside which are kept the relics brought by the sailors returning from the Crusades, and from whose church there is a magnificent panorama .
Nearby is the Brown Castle, a fortress nestled in a beautiful roof garden, featuring walls with bas-reliefs and marble and slate architectural fittings.
From here you reach the lighthouse, located on Punta del Capo (Punta Portofino), which dominates the entire bay.
Also interesting is the Gothic Oratory of the Assumption's Confraternity, which houses several works of art, including a 19th-century wooden statue. Depicting the Assumption.

Those who love traditions, walking through the borough streets, can visit craft shops such as those in which the local women still work the elegant lace in Flanders with the ancient tombolo technique.
To immerse yourself in the typically Mediterranean nature, it is a must-have tour on the mountain of Portofino, which gives emotions and intense pleasure or a boat trip in the Gulf of Tigullio in direct contact with its beautiful sea.
Frequent, especially during the summer, world events and evenings that have made Portofino famous internationally, including the spectacular regattas.
Among the religious events, the festival is in honor of the patron saint San Giorgio (23 April), with the procession and the characteristic bonfire that illuminates the "piazzetta".
Portofino offers excellent seafood cuisine, many restaurants to enjoy seafood specialties, but also the typical recipe of the area: the "lasagna di Portofino", a delicious dish with a pesto sauce. Before dinner all in "piazzetta" for an aperitif with Genoese focaccia and "Giancu de Purtufin", a mixture of local grapes, limited to local production only.

Portofino is a good base from which to visit several interesting places on the Ligurian Riviera (both of the West and of the Levante).
There is an unforgettable trip to Genoa, which is only 30 km away, or the Cinque Terre, about 50 km away, both UNESCO Heritage Sites.
Do not miss a trip to the suggestive medieval abbey of San Fruttuoso, a few kilometers from the coast, surrounded by lush vegetation. According to the legend to build the building were five Spanish monks fleeing from Terragona invaded by the Arabs. The monks, after a long and dangerous journey, brought to this enchanting place the relics of the Bishop of the same name, Fruttuoso.
Lastly, a visit to the theater of the city is recommended, Teatro Perla del Tigullio, a place loved by artists and intellectuals, where periodically national and international conferences and events are held.
