My 7 day self-trek through the beautiful Altai mountain range in Western Mongolia filmed on the GoPro and DJI Mavic Drone in 4k.

Anya and I walked 150km in 7 days and carried all food, cooking equipment and tent. We had to get permission from the military (which is easy to do) as it was close to the Russian and Chinese borders and as we wanted to trek ourselves we had to rent a spot messenger which tracked our GPS points.

Thanks to https://maps.me once again for their offline maps which had most of the route apart from the 3000m valley pass. If you lose the track, which we did many times, just follow the horse and camel shit as it is a popular tourist route generally done with a tour guide with horses, camels etc. Take a satellite image map too as the valley pass is not as clear going from south to north as it is from north to south.

Although we did take a "wrong" turn at one point after losing the track again on the highest pass over the valley and followed the horse shit further up to 3200 metres. It took us to a dead end, but the view was the most incredible we saw on the whole trek. You can see it on the thumbnail of the video where we were. The view below was spectacular down the valley.

Weather can change instantly and it is important to be prepared. Even in summer, the nights can hit freezing, even at 2000 metres which is where most of the track is at. The wind can be very strong, constant and accompanied with rain, your hands can go numb very quickly if you do not have the right protection and a sturdy tent. We found out the hard way.

We also got hit by a hail storm and it was like getting shot by a hundred bb gun pellets.

After 7 days we were pretty tired and happy our pick-up arrived as it would have been a 200km walk to the nearest town.

Thank you @skermsphotos27, it was truly breathtaking scenery.

Kudos for doing this on your own. Love trekking but not a fan of self supporting so really well done. Looks like you had a great time.

Thanks @amrkangeltrueman, it was a fantastic experience. I know what you mean though, it is fairly hard carrying 20kg on your back at that altitude and organising and preparing takes a lot of time, but for me, this all adds to the reward and the sense of achievement.

Yeah, know all about that, just back from a trek to EBC. Although I was only carrying about 10kilos for most of that, its still incredibly hard work at 5500m. Amazes me how the porters can carry 20kilos at that altitiude with no issues.

Your travel is just so intense. Wooh!

Thanks @gailbelga, Western Mongolia is amazing, you should go.
