Park Guell - Barcelona

One of Gaudi's masterpieces, Park Guell is a public park in Barcelona that stretches along a hillside with gardens, artistic structures and buildings, and views of the city. The park was built between 1900 to 1914 and is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Park Guell is located in Carmel Hill and provides a great place to explore and take a break from the city.

The structures were simply amazing. From a distance the buildings and structures were incredible to look at and tempted childhood dreams. From up close we were stunned by the detail and the thoughts of how these structures were built with each piece of stone and each stroke of the paint brush paced with such care.

Some of the buildings brought back memories of childhood games and images of imaginary kingdoms or fantasy lands. At the same time I also found myself craving for candy or cupcakes as some of the buildings stirred an image of icing or deserts of sorts.

Mosaics stretched up walls and covered ceilings and floors. Standing up close to them we could really appreciate the delicate process that must go into their creation.

The gardens varied from open green spaces to terracing gardens with flowing water. We found ourselves either actively playing or watching closely with our imagination creating an adventure of what it would be like to wander through these areas in a different form.

Park Guell was a memorable place that really does stir the imagination. We left reflecting on the dreams and hopes and creative imaginations children have and their desire to see the world a something more. To carry that state of mind through life would be a life limitless and unbounded.
