Introducing my hometown İstanbul # 2 - Yaşadığım şehir olan İstanbul'u tanıtma # 2 ENG - TR

This is the second episode for my “ introducing my hometown İstanbul” article. I hope you like the first one. Today I am gonna introduce you some parts of İstanbul which I could not write in first episode.

The Golden Horn (Haliç)

The golden Horn divides the European side of İstanbul with it’s long, narrow horn shape. Since it’s a natural port, Byzantine and Ottoman Navies and those interested in commercial shipping gathered there. At sunset the water’s color turns into gold and today the shores are surrounded by pleasnt parks and walking paths. Up the Golden Horn, Fener and Balat districts include many wooden houses from Byzantine and Ottoman times, as well as churches and synagogues.

Altın boynuz (Haliç)

Gün batımında güneş ışınlarının Haliç’i altın sarısı rengine boyaması sebebiyle altın boynuz adı verilmiştir. Doğal bir liman olan Haliç, bu amaçla Bizans döneminden itibaren kullanılmaya başlamıştır. Haliç’in kıyı kesimleri çok hoş parklar ve yürüyüş yollarıyla çevrilidir. Haliç’ten yukarıya doğru çıktığınızda Balat’ta ve Fener’de Bizans ve Osmanlı döneminden kalma çok harika ahşap evler, kiliseler ve sinagoglar bulabilirsiniz.

Galata Tower
This tower was buit by the Genoese in 1348 as the tower of Galata walls. The tower, whose walls collapsed in the 1509 earthquake, remained standing on it’s own. Among other purposes in the Ottoman era, the tower was the prison for captives working in the Kasımpaşa Dockyard in the 16th century. In the 18th century it was used as a fire watchtower. It is 61 m high and has 12 floors including the basement. There was a cross on top of the tower during the Genoese era. Today, there is pole of 6.75 m. On top. The Tower was renovated in 1964 and became a tourist place suitable for refreshments and various shows.

Galata Kulesi

Galata Kulesi’nin duvarları, 1348 yılında Cenevizliler tarafından yapılmıştır. Kulenin duvarları, 1509 yılında depremle çok hasar görmüştür. Kule, 16.yy da Osmanlı zamanında Kasımpaşa tersanesindeki esirler için hapishane olarak kullanılmıştı. 18 yy da ise yangın gözetleme kulesi olarak kullanıldı. Kule, 61 mt yüksekliğe ve bodrum katı dahil 12 kata sahiptir. Cenevizliler zamanında kulenin tepesinde haç vardı. Kule, 1964 yılında yenilendi ve turistlerin İstanbul’da en uğrak yerlerinden bir tanesi oldu.

The Grand Bazaar

The Grand Bazaar is the oldest and biggest closed bazaar of the World in the center of the city of İstanbul. This bazaar founded in 1461. Like an enormous labyrinth, it’s a spectacular and unique part of İstanbul with 60 streets and over 3600 stores in an area of 30,700 square meters. All types of garments, jewelry, guns and antiques were offered for sale by families that specialized in their fields for generations. There are jewelers on the street which is considered to be main avenue of the bazaar and there are gold sellers on the side streets of this main avenue. These stores, which are small in size, offer different prices and different possibilities for bargaining. Thus the Grand Bazaar preserves it’s color and attraction.

Kapalı Çarşı

1461 yılında yapılmış olan Kapalı Çarşı, Dünyanın en büyük ve en eski kapalı çarşısıdır. İstanbul’un benzersiz yerlerinden olan Kapalı çarşı, 30,700 m2’lik bir alanda 60 sokak ve 3600’dan fazla dükkan bulunmaktadır. Her türlü elbise, mücevher, tarihi silah ve antikaların satıldığı bir yerdir. Çarşının ana caddesi olarak kabul edilen sokakta mücevher satılan dükkanlar bulunmaktadır ve bu dükkanların karşısında kuyumcular bulunmaktadır ve burada ciddi rekabetler yaşanmaktadır. Bu dükkanlar fiyat rekabeti oluşturabilmek için müşterilerle çok sık pazarlık yapmak durumunda kalırlar. Pazarlıkta zaten ticarete renk verir.
