The World's Foremost Outfitters?

Today's expedition included a stop at Cabela's at State Line, Idaho. For those of you who might be unfamiliar with rural reality, this store will be a complete shock.

Right next to the entrance is a display of antique traps. The stuff you see in old cartoons is not far off from reality.

But one of the first things most will see is a massive indoor hill covered with taxidermy displays.

Immediately surrounding the mountain is the central apparel department. Along the outside are sections devoted to different activities such as camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing.

Fishing gear is displayed in quantities to boggle the mind.

There is also an aquarium filled with freshwater fish. My apologies for the reflections.

The firearms section is massive. There is also a firearm museum of sorts with more formal displays of collectible firearms, but that is way outside my budget.

There were shotguns and rifles of all descriptions, handguns of every type, and accessories for modifying whatever you may own.

I do need to point out that there were no assault rifles or machine guns though. An AR-15 pattern rifle is not an assault rifle. The internal components of the trigger assembly are completely different, and the mechanical function defines the rifle type. Here is a picture of the parts that make an AR just another semi-auto rifle:

There is also a "general store" snack shop with candy and other foodstuff at the front of the store. If you like fudge, they have what you need even if nothing else in the store piques your interest.

There is also a restaurant and deli with a slightly unusual menu.

All told, while it is not my favorite local sporting goods store, it is a pretty amazing place for whatever your preferred outdoor pursuit may be. And of course,

One of our favorite family stops! The kids love looking at the polar bear and the prairie dogs. There is one in particular that appears to be stuck, although I think the intention is for it to appear as though it's digging down into a burrow. That always starts up the inappropriate "butt" jokes. Nothing like body humor to get 5-12 yr olds giggling. Anyway, we don't get out that way much in the winter. Snow's melting. Might be time for a trip out! It's always a good time to stock up on some ammo.
Thanks for the reminder!

This is the song they actually sing when they see the prairie dogs! My 5 yr old is a bit of a ham, so he really belts it!

I love going to Cabela's. When I was a kid my uncle took me there many times to get our hunting gear.

Looks like a great place. I have never actually been to a Cabela's, but I think I will try to make it to one. I am not much of a hunter or fisherman, but it still fun to visit places like this.
The only place I have ever been is Bass Pro. My family and I visited one just last month in Springfield Missouri. You can see my trip here.
Seeing your pics, it looks like the two are very similar.
Thank you very much for sharing, keep on steemin!

This is really a nice place to be. And when i look at the set up and physical surroundings, its simply awesome. The nature decorations and how each section was arranged is great too. And think about the rural location? Not many people would expect to find a nice place like this. Thanks @jacobtothe for letting us know

Where I live is truly rural. State Line is just a few miles east of Spokane, and just off the interstate. That probably only counts as "rural" if your frame of reference is Manhattan.
