Attractions of Halong Bay #6 The Floating Villages

in #travel6 years ago

The incredible Floating Villages of Halong Bay are one of things that you simply just see, in your life. This is like watching national Geographic in real time. Halong bay lies about 110 miles to the east of the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, it is a 600 square mile astonishing area of scientific interest,a UNESCO World Heritage Site and simply one of the most beautiful places on earth. Sadly they are diminishing and could soon be all but lost. The people are under increasing pressure tome to the land.

Mother Nature has spent 500 million years crafting this place and the very least you can do is come and see it while you can. It will of course eventually disappear into the sea, but thankfully that is a very long time off. 1960 limestone Karst islands pepper the bay with iconic beauty, not seen anywhere else on earth.

Halong Bay is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and the people who inhabit the tiny floating villages care nothing of that of course. It is unbelievable to imagine but many of the people using their feet to row tourists around the coves, harbours and cliff faces have never left the area in their entire lives.

The children born into the villages more often than not, learn to swim before they can walk and own their own small rowing boats before ehe age of 4. It is a remarkable place. There is every chance that the old lady rowing your small boat expertly through the small coves and hidden archways, to show you the local primary school, went to the very same school 60 years ago or more.

These Floating Villages are amazing, they have houses, schools, police stations, community centres and even basketball courts all out on the bay.

Nice floating house.

Yeah, they are not as good as they used to be, they have become more touristic.
